Book Description

Dec 15 2006 Dover Electronic Clip Art
Artists, illustrators, designers, and craftspeople in search of exceptionally bold and inventive motifs will turn to this versatile treasury. Meticulously adapted from artwork that once decorated ancient rune stones, furniture, sword hilts, and other Celtic and Old Norse artifacts, the illustrations include an amazing array of human figures, animals, and mythological creatures, all ingeniously woven into an intricate network of spirals and interlacings.
This book includes a CD-ROM containing 221 royalty-free images, 48 of them in color. Color images are saved in TIFF and JPEG formats; black-and-white images in BMP, GIF, JPEG, PICT, EPS, and TIFF formats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great source for inspiration July 28 2009

My wife is an avid cross stitcher, and has been creating a number of blankets for our nieces and nephew, with all sorts of Celtic images. She loved the CD that is included, that she could import into her PC Stitch program, make color changes or enhancements, and print out the pattern for her to use.

I think I have gotten all of the Celtic Design books, and this was the first of the Norse series that I got her. She found the images to be very interesting, and as said above, the CD is incredibly helpful

1.0 out of 5 stars Not professional graphics Jan. 26 2012
By Cary Howe - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was hoping for professional quality graphics but I was stunned at the quality. The drawings themselves are crude and never even had basic clean up. I thought they were a bargain but in order to have useable I'll have to redo everyone I need as a vector drawing. They are strictly for reference purposes. I don't really have the time to redo what I need as vector so I'm stuck going back to my stock source. It's disgusting because I have half a dozen of these on order and I assume the rest will be the same so they are nearly worthless. If you are looking for usable graphics don't waste your money and go to the stock sources. I'm shocked that they not only weren't done as vectors but there was absolutely no clean up. The line are wavy and there are little blobs and tails where he made mistakes but never bothered to fix. The line quality is so bad that for me cleaning up is a waste of time. Worst of all they are all low resolution so everything even the EPS images are low resolution. I guess with some clean up a few might be adequate as thumbnails but that's pretty sad.

If you are basically looking for Norse designs this will do. There's not much Celtic at all.
