This was extremely disappointing. More than half of the "book" is about configuring the client browser. He spends time setting up a fake hosts file to make his "example" work. There is no guidance or elaboration on the options in the conf file. I had already googled and found more info than this "book" provides. For 20+ pages i expected a lot more than screen captures of firefox. Or how to make a pac config file. Why was that even included? The title is "Configuring Squid" not "Configuring a browser to use a proxy". The single "By Example" is nothing applicable to the real world. It is too narrow and does not go beyond the essential settings.
