Isabelle never disappoints,

This review is from: Chansons Pour Les Mois D Hiver (Audio CD)
Her voice is beautiful as always. More artists should record in this style. I love her voice. I'm now living in Phoenix Arizona and this album carries me back to my Francophone childhood memories in Canada. Great song selection and great CD.Paul

Chansons pour tout la vie,

Unlike most artists Isabelle Boulay always produces a perfect album. So far I have never come across one song of hers that I did not like. This album is no exception. Once again all song are excellent and get better the more you listen to them. This is the perfect album for a romantic night in with a warm fire a bottle of wine and the right company. Truly beautiful.

"Chansons pour les mois d'hiver" is perhaps the best CD Isabelle Boulay has released to date. Mme Boulay needn't have been worried whether the songs included in her CD would work. It is a beautiful CD, in both the vocals and instrumentation. This CD allows one to lay back, close one's eyes, and enter into a relaxed and pleasant state. And yes, during the winter months, with the tempests blowing in across Lake Michigan's Pte Betsie, I can put "Chansons pour les mois d'hiver" into the CD player, put on a heavy flannel shirt, and watch the snow blow about and pile up outside while staying warm and calm inside. It is very hard to pick out favorites from this CD because they are all favorites. However, I'll pick out three which, in my opinion, especially stand out: 1) "Feignez de dormir" is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard in a long time. 2) "Chanson pour les mois d'hiver" is the first song I heard from the CD and seeing the happiness which Mme Boulay expressed in her promotional video of the same name was such a pleasure. 3) "Tennessee Waltz", an old country music standard. I really liked her interpretation. I asked my late father once why he liked Italian opera so well when he wasn't fluent in Italian. He told me the vocals and the instrumentation were beautiful. When I first heard Mme Boulay on Windsor, Ontario's CBEF singing "Un peu d'innocence" in 1996, I then understood what my father had said to me. I have never since been disappointed in her beautiful performances. "Chansons pour les mois d'hiver" keeps up that tradition of her beautiful performances. I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys beautiful, relaxing, and calming music, whether they are fluent in French or not. Beautiful music has no language barrier. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful

Another magnificent album!,

Her newest album is a great listen! Although one might believe that this is a Christmas album, it is not; I would not want to speak for the artist, but I would think of this as a 'winter' album similar to December, Piano Solos: 20th Anniversary Edition by George Winston or A Winter's Solstice: Silver Anniversary Edition. From start to finish, every song is enjoyable and has a relaxed feel to it. For those who may concern themselves with the question of whether Isabelle is doing a 'country' album or not, this is not a country album, but has more of a 'folk' feel. A couple of songs, like 'Tennessee Waltz' do have a country feel, however. Still, one should not get hung up in genres, but enjoy the music for what it is - beautiful! The production on this album is superb. Here is the track listing: 1) Feignez de dormir 2) Chanson pour les mois d'hiver 3) L'amitié 4) Hors-Saison 5) Le patineur 6) La ballade du chien-loup 7) Je reviens chez nous 8) Déranger les pierres 9) Tennessee Waltz 10) Schefferville, le dernier train 11) Marie-Noël |
