I love this CD. It is light and fast. Sometimes you want to dance, sometimes to meditate. I am very found of Dorian's recordings.

This is a wonderful CD. I appreciate the singer's voice and the musicians. The vibrant "Souvent souspire" I love very much. I should mention "Non es meravilla s'eu chan", composed by Bernart de Ventadorn and "Quant je sui", composed by Guillaume de Machaut. When I hear these two songs, I can feel the medieval atmosphere.

The musics executed by Sonus here,with ancient instruments restored,transport us to magic but at the same times estranger world of the Middle Ages.It is the troubadours(Provence) and trouvères(France)epoch,that carried his religious,satiric or liric art from court to court.We are seduced by the meloudiosness of this music,played byrustic instruments but that produce the sounds de extreme agreeableness to ear.Congratulations for Sonus,by his magisterial interpretation of the medieval music.

Sonus is one of the finest bands I've heard that play medieval and renaissance music. They capture the feel and vibe of another time and transport you there. What's it like when you get there? Hard to describe. You can hear the roots of folk and mountain music at times, perhaps the roots of baroque. Some songs would certainly appeal to fans of celtic music. The ballads are beautiful, the up tempo numbers are a blast! It may not be rock'n'roll, but it is lively, sometimes wild music you can dance to.I was a kid when I first heard medieval music. I loved it immediately. Might've been in a movie, I'm not sure. I just know I longed to hear more. In my teens I at last found some from the library and bargain tape bins. Loved it. Devoured it. Music from this time period and the renaissance have alot in common with the experimental music of the 60's and should be explored by fans of this genre. This music goes in alot of directions, always interesting, full of atmosphere, able to transport you. Everything good music should be. Sonus as a group are hard to match. Brilliant musicianship of the highest order. Vocals among the finest yoy'll hear. My only beef with music from this time period is that no matter what country it's from, the words are always latin. I would rather hear the common tongue of the various nations. Small gripe considering the quality of the music. Those already into this style of music, I highly recommend this disc for your collection. Those not, try this or Sonus Echoes of Spain (this one would be a better place to start for rockers) for something different. Songs like Souvent souspire might just appeal to fans of psyche rock. It's a trip. |
