This review is from: Charlie And The Angel (Paperback)
I borrowed this book from a friend and enjoyed this historical romance novel. This is a story about a gunslinger who saves a nun from being raped. She hires him to take her back to the convent and romance, murder and chase across Texas and Mexico developes. I am off to discover more books from this Author.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars, Beautiful western tale about a reformed outlaw and a sweet heroine, Jun 26 2011
By Melissa - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Charlie And The Angel (Paperback)
Charlie and Angelina, the leads in Lori Handeland's Charlie and the Angel are imminently easy to like. They are bold, refreshingly honest and stay true to their feelings.

Charlie saves Angelina from a gang of marauders who have attacked her companions. Angelina is a postulate waiting to take her vows and she is shocked when she is saved from imminent rape by a rather rough looking cowboy. The Sisters traveling with her are dead along with the priest. Charlie takes Angelina with him to the nearest town hoping to put her on a stage to Corpus Christie.

Charlie is no do-gooder, he is a former outlaw trying to go straight but Angelina is definitely going to disrupt his plans. He truly admires her and desires her too but she is so pure and quite frankly so innocent of worldly vices that he just cannot imagine sharing a life with her. Charlie has a running theme in his head that his past makes him ultimately unworthy of such a lovely creature.

Angelina is torn between her calling to be a nun and her desire to be with Charlie. This is a real struggle for her and it does not resolve itself in a matter of pages. Angelina believes she must fulfill her destiny and she is earnest in seeking spiritual guidance. She is not judgmental though and she exhibits the best parts of her faith, charity and forgiveness.

The leads battle bad guys, bounty hunters and controlling family members in this western saga. Angelina is kind, gentle and most of all loyal. She matures throughout this novel.

Charlie is serious, dependable and intuitive. He harbors a past that makes him doubt his future happiness but fortunately his heroine recognizes his innate goodness. This story was beautifully told and will be going on my keeper shelf.
