Sometimes, while living our lives and going through our normal daily routines in adult life, we come across something by accident that takes you back to fond memories of your childhood. For me, one of those things is this timeless masterpiece by E.B. White. While channel surfing the other day, I came across an afternoon showing of this movie and found myself enjoying it just as much, if not more so, than when I used to watch it as a kid. Memories of happier, care-free days as a child all came flooding back and left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling and kinda made my day. I highly recommend you sharing this movie with any kid in your life and I guarantee it will be an experience that will forever be a part of their lives. The story is so endearing, powerful, and transforming (particularly to young, impressionable minds) that the experience of viewing it for the first time will be unforgettable.
I also want to add that most reviewers commented on the dated animation quality in this film and I can't tell you how much I disagree with this. The movie's story is the most compelling part of the movie as well as the superb acting voices used in the film. The pictures are almost secondary but absolutely adequate, and I believe, at times extremely appropriate. It goes to show how a timeless classic that is well done does not have to rely on special effects and visual wizardry to tell a good story. In my opinion, the artwork and animation suits the movie extremely well and is visually satisfying. It also helps keep the viewer focused on the story and its characters as opposed to the visual elements of the production.
I love and appreciate this film now as an adult just as much as I did when I was a child and can't wait to someday share it with my kids. It's a classic and should never be absent from any family's video collection!

I can hardly believe another "reviewer" thought the "songs were pretty boring"... I LOVE the songs! My favorite is "Chin-up", which I am trying to find the lyrics for. This is a song that I want to learn and sing every day to my kids.
If there is a soundtrack to this movie I want it!
Not only are the songs wonderful, but the movie is a treasure!
My kids could watch this a million times over and it would never get old!

Charlotte's Web may be lacking the advanced animation seen in more recent cartoons, but I highly recommend you see it! The story is gentle and inspiring, an endearing tale of the bonds of friendship. Wilbur the Pig is innocent and kind but not so much so that he comes across as boring or stupid. Charlotte the Spider, who becomes his friend, is a fiesty character that rallies the entire barnyard in an effort to save Wilbur from the butcher's block. I especially liked Templeton the Rat, who was voiced by comedian Paul Lynde. Templeton's wry observations made me smile and his grudging participation in the scheme to save Wilbur kept me smiling. I enjoyed this movie almost as much as my children. We rank it high on our favorites list!

Charlotte's Web is one of my favorite childhood movies. I recall My 1st grade teacher taking my entire class to see the film's premiere in 1973. Over the years, my family watched the film on TV. My late mother presented me with the the novel at the age of 12. The music and animation was marvelous. Charlotte's death still brings tears to my eyes. The movie is a treasure for generations.

When Farmer Zuckerman was going to "do away with" the runt of his pig's litter, his daughter tearfully convinces him to allow her the responsibility of raising "Wilbur". Wilbur turns into the barnyard joy, and eventually wins not only first prize at the fair, but because of the wisdom of the old spider, Charlotte, becomes a famed attraction.
This classic children's story deals with the life cycle and explains, through the farm animals' eyes, that birth, life and eventual death are all natural, and nothing to fear. After a laborous life, Charlotte dies, but all are reminded of her "magic" when her little baby spiders hatch and go on into the world to live their lives.
Debbie Reynold lends her voice to Charlotte, and several beautiful songs envelop this delightful story. This one is right up there with animated Disney Classics, a film every child should enjoy, one of the very best in its class.*****

Although I liked the book better, this movie is great. It teaches the wonder of life as well as death being inevidable. But more importantly it teaches about the value of friendship. A great children's movie as well as grown ups movie as well.

This is E.B. White's classic and timeless children's story in animation and music. Charlotte the Spider (Debbie Reynolds voice) teaches Wilbur the Pig (Henry Gibson's voice) about life, and Templeton the Rat (Paul Lynde's voice)all join in the barnyard fun for lessons in friendship, trust, and love. A marvelous film for the entire family. It's a throwback to another age, this movie, and we all can learn something from a more quieter life, although in animation, it seems like the animals are just like us. Or is it the other way around. In any event, it's a fun film.
