Product Description

From Amazon

Always the quiet (and often forgotten) middle child in a bustling family, Zinnia's life begins to change when she stumbles upon a hidden, overgrown pathway that stretches from the edge of her family's farm into the great unknown. Determined to find where the path leads, Zinnia begins the daunting task of uncovering brambles and weeds along every inch of its length. In powerful, honest, down-home prose, Newbery-winner Sharon Creech delivers a dazzling portrait of a girl who's not afraid to journey into her family's mysterious past in order to find her own way into adulthood. Watching Zinnia bloom will warm your heart. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Discovery of Truths, April 24 2002
This review is from: Chasing Redbird (Hardcover)
I thought this book was well written that one would not want to put it down once he or she started to read it. This is the case with myself.
Zinny, a 13-year old girl, is set on a journy of discovery. She find this overgrown path in her backyard and decides that she will uncover the whole thing by herself and this will be known as her path to everyone. Zinny comes from a large family and happens to be placed in the middle. She feels that everyone contributes to the family some-how except for herself. On covering the path became an obession for Zinny, because this would be a way she would be definied in her family. Zinny researches the trail and finds out it is twenty miles long. She makes a plan to camp out therefore she does not have to return every night. Through uncovering the trail, Zinny discovers many truths. Zinny discovers truths about herself and her family. Zinny discovers that even though she is a middle child of many siblings she holds a special place in her parents heart. Zinny also discovers a romance. She also discovers some hidden family secrets. This book is written in a fashion that it slowly starts to reveal information, but you must continue to read to find out how it all ends. This book captures the essence of the thirteen year old girl perfectly. You are able to read and feel like you are thirteen years old again going through the trials with Zinny.
I think this is an excellent book and if you want to find out about the discoveries that Zinny makes you will have to read the story, which I recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a Read, April 16 2002
This review is from: Chasing Redbird (Hardcover)
I have to say this is undoubtedly the best book I have ever read...I have found myself reading it over and over again. I love the fact that there is a romance involved. Being I myself have had my share of crushes on older boys, I wish I could have one like Zinny does. This along with the slightly supernatural part of the story really got me interested. Plus, who can pass up a story that so clearly and truly depicts a teenage girls relationship with her family and her fasination with life? Like stated in another review, I was hooked by the first sentence. This book really found a special place in my heart and I can only hope that you will give it a chance and hopefully you too will fall in love.

This review is from: Chasing Redbird (Paperback)
This book was great and kept me waiting for more. This really showed what a true teenager is really like and shows the true emotions of having a huge family. As she clears her trail, it is like her knowledge and adventure growing with it. After reading this book, I wanted to have a special place like her trail just for my own. This book was wonderful.
