Good cause, Great Music, Excellent performance, Mar 6 2010
This review is from: Cheap Trick Sgt. Pepper Live (DVD)
The profits from this DVD go to Prostate Cancer research: Good cause The music played is the complete Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band: Great Music The non pareil Cheap Trick plus special guests including an orchestra and an Indian ensemble rock this very familiar music and bring their own take to it. Robin,Rick & Bunny are great but as a bass player I've got to mention Tom Petersson. You've got to keep one eye and ear on him. He makes these songs sound unique without being obviously different: Excellent performance

Good Trick - Near Perfect, Jun 20 2011
This review is from: Cheap Trick Sgt. Pepper Live (DVD)
Cheap Trick, with a lot of help from their friends, have produced a near-perfect, live version of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The instrumentation and orchestration are great, the singing just a little less so. The low points for me are "When I'm 64" and "Lovely Rita" for weak vocals; the high points are all the rest. It is easy to listen and be taken back to 1967 with The Beatles' original release. Having said that, the closing medley of Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End (from Abbey Road) is a bit jarring and a reminder of the loss we experienced with the break-up of The Beatles. This is an ambitious and great-sounding CD and is wonderful to reminisce by. I would have loved to have been at the live performance.

NOT the Beatles but Close!, Dec 13 2009
This review is from: Cheap Trick Sgt. Pepper Live (DVD)
Cheap Trick, along with their own songs, have done a GREAT job in playing out these Beatle tunes. It's a live recording, and since I was too young to really remmember the Beatles in the early 60's, Cheap Trick have done a great job in sounding like the Beatles. Robin Zander at vocals, is great, along with the others, Tom, Rick & Bun E.!NO....., BEATLES they are NOT, but pretty close! VAN HORN!!
