Product Description

The zany twosome are back for some smoke-enhanced misadventures in this riotous comedy. This time, Cheech must deal with an angry neighbor and losing his job, all while trying to score with a sexy young lady. Meanwhile, Chong meets Cheech's cousin, Red (Cheech Marin in a dual role), and the two new buds have a wild time buzzing around Hollyweird in a bad Ferrari. Along the way, the dynamic duo find time for some mishaps at a movie set, the welfare office, a hotel, a brothel, a music store, a rich girl's house, a comedy club, the ultimate weed field and a UFO - all before the second reel! It's an outrageous comedy that you and your friends will be toking about for a long time to come.

The scene with Cheech & Chong riding in their van with Chong's (...) specimen (actually, he got his sister to fill the jar) and a bag of white powder is the funniest thing I've ever seen in a movie. It alone is worth the price of the DVD. But there's more!
The guitar shop, the bath house, Chicken Charlie, "Ain't that a peach", "I think they're Iranians!", and "I'm gonna turn this glass into a ..." are funny enough to leave anyone in stitches.
I'm not a pothead, but I love this movie!

I'm going to be honest; if you are not a fan of Cheech & Chong, you are not going to like this movie. On the other hand, if you're either a fan or just plain curious about C & C, then check this movie out. It's a great example of them at their best.
I was a big fan of Cheech & Chong long before they made their first movie, "Up in Smoke", which was an instant classic. This was, as the title says their "Next Movie" and shortly after this they released a few more before they finally split up in the early 80s when Cheech took a movie offer (Born in East L.A.)without Tommy Chong.
Of all the Cheech & Chong movies, their first two were the best, so if you're looking for their best work, look no further.
My only complaint and reason for not giving it 5 stars is that they don't offer it on DVD. All of their other movies are out on DVD, so I can't figure out why this one is not on DVD. I'm hoping that when they release their NEW reunion movie, they have the wisdom to issue the entire library.

Anyone who started their Cheech and Chong collection with the sublime, landmark 'Up In Smoke' might feel more than slightly disappointed with this patchy, self indulgent affair that mixes the moderately amusing (absolute highlight is when Chong smokes the roach, literally) with the downright deplorable. The main problem seems to be that it's less a narrative based movie, like their debut, or 'Nice Dreams', and more a collection of sketches which vary quite a bit in quality. Certainly the second half, where Cheech-in-a-wig (as Cheech's cousin Red) and Chong travel around town with twenty pounds of buds in a duffel bag, fails to generate anything resembling a decent joke, including the worst on screen stoner conversation (between them and a wealthy dowager in a Rolls) I've ever seen. Other bits just drag, such as the scene in the welfare office with the dude who made the noises in the Police Academy films. No matter how out of it I've been, this bit makes absolutely no sense and feels like a five minute edit that the was left in by accident. Not too good at all.

Cheech & Chong are back in this their second starring role movie. This time they are in a bigger-budget movie and Thomas Chong is the Director of this film. That's Cassandra Peterson, the red-headed lady with the sunglasses on top who has to say "Help me, Wamba!". We all later knew her as "Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark" here on Los Angeles television. Look closely behind the houses and you can tell that some scenes were filmed on the backlot of the studio. The story--Cheech gets frantic when he wakes up one morning and finds the van has been stolen, only to find out they got fired so the boss took it back. Back to the Public Social Services they go. But it's okay, Cheech's girlfriend works there. Let the fun begin. Phil Hartman and Rita Wilson (Tom Hanks' future wife) can be spotted in this film. The next film is CHEECH & CHONG'S NICE DREAMS (1981).

Next Movie in my opinion is C&C's best album even though most tend to favor the classic Up in Smoke, there's not much of a plot but it's a really fun movie to watch, especially for a pothead (even though I'm not one). Introducted is the C&C series are Donna (Evelyn Guerrero) and Pee Wee Herman (Paul Ruebens). The funniest part is when they're at the hotel and Pee Wee Herman got arrested even though he was the VICTIM!
And when they eluded the cops in a Ferrari and they get abducted by aliens.
If you're a C&C fan or a fan of marijuana laced comedies, you'll love Next Movie (it's the very first C&C movie I'd ever watched) and avoid Still Smokin' and the awful Corsician Brothers, you'll be happy you did cause everybody knows that Up in Smoke and this one are the classics.

This is C&C's funniest film ever. "Up In Smoke" is really good and establishes the duo's place in the cinema, but 'Next Movie' is just plain awesome.
I was planning to buy this dvd, and still intend to do so, but was a little disappointed that they did not include any footage of the deleted or alternate scenes. Those of you who saw the 'diamonds version' on comedy central years ago know what I mean. There were some extra or extended made-for-tv scenes that really filled the movie out nicely...not like this is an epic picture like Gone With The Wind, War and Peace or Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Still in all, this one is a purchase.

Great movie...but...would be a better DVD if it had both versions. The version (not included) in questions is the heavy censor TV version. Instead of "weed" they are carrying "diamonds". That version has a better soundtrack as well. Also, cartoons, and more UFO scenes. Usually censorship makes for a bad movie, but in this case it makes for a totally stupid, great, awesome movie. It just proves how far censors would go in the 1980's. Universal should release a disc with both "classic" versions. Oh, and Edie McClurg is great in this one! Welcome cone to "The Next Movie" yall cmon in...rockin soundtrack!
