Minor problems prevent perfect rating,
By
This review is from: Cheers: Season 9 (DVD)
I own all seasons (so far) of Cheers, and my wife and I have noticed a minor problem that, while it doesn't detract from enjoying the show, is odd in itself.During some episodes, when the camera angle changes in the middle of a dialogue exchange in the same scene, the picture quality changes dramatically, as if the original footage had been damaged and had to be replaced - last minute - with raw / replacement footage. You may notice a sudden change in lighting (bright and then suddenly dark) or odd colour changes (Rebecca's dress will go from a lovely shade of blue to an off-purple, and back again). We first noticed these problems during Season 7, but they appear to occur more often with Season 9. On the plus side, we are very happy with the change of packaging, allowing 5 discs to fit into the same size DVD case as a normal 1 disc movie. This certainly conserves shelf space, which I admit is getting rather full now that I own all seasons of Raymond (HUGE cases!), Frasier, and now almost Cheers. See what others of you think - have you seen these quality shifts happening with your copies? One thing is for sure - nobody else has Amazon's prices, that's for sure (at least in Canada). With the free shipping, it's the best rate around, saving us any hassle to try to comparisson shop with places like HMV or Music World (now closed) or other DVD retailers. Save yourself the time - AND GAS COSTS, and get all your sets here. I'm not kidding, I'm the biggest deal-hound around, ask anyone. Gregson

subtle changes,
This review is from: Cheers: Season 9 (DVD)
i am a huge fan of cheers but one thing i am a little disappointed in are the changes they have done to the episodes. They have put in reworked scenes that never did exist during the original viewing on tv/not added footage-but totally replaced footage and removed what originally was there.i will not go into detail but if you are a cheers fan i am sure you will see what i mean in certain episodes. And though i do like the newer slimmer appearance-for a show that was so rich in its history and star power it was sure a dull interior for the fan to open up to.Great show but poor overall rating

After waiting years, seriously, for this release, I was really upset to find the episodes are edited, songs are removed, and all 5 discs are shoved into one standard sized DVD case. The distributors really cheapened the integrity of this otherwise wonderful show. Of course fans should still buy it because afterall, seasons 10 and 11 aren't out yet and the company won't do them unless this one sells okay. Just be warned, you may watch it and your favorite scenes and songs are missing. 11 of 12 people found the following review helpful

BEWARE! Edited content,

Aside from sporting new packaging and a 5-disc format for Season 9, there's a little box on the bottom of the back which holds that most dreaded statement for any fan: "Some episodes may be edited from their original network versions. Music has been changed for this home entertainment version."Since it has been several years since I have seen these shows, I won't be able to determine what has been changed, but I felt compelled to alert potential buyers that the music royalty hounds have savaged another classic show. These monopolistic behemoths must be stopped. Beyond that, it is another season of Cheers. The video and audio appear to be excellent. So 5 stars minus 1 star for the edits. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful

Yeeeaahhhh!!!!,

I have to say...it took forever for Season 9 to come out - a little too long in my opinion. While shows that have not been heard of in ten years and have had no real air time - they release their seasons back to back every 4-6 weeks, while we wait years for a show that won 6 Golden Globes; 65 other wins; and 138 nominations. There are a couple of down sides to this Season, and one of them is the music that others have mentioned - especially the "I Fought the Law" scene - I had to rewind it a few times to try to hear what song it way - - still have no clue - and it makes no sense. I did also catch the swearing as well. Otherwise, I am happy to have it - it has been too long. The case it came in is awesome - although it does not match my other ones, it's all good - most show seasons do not match anymore due to them changing the cases. Hopefully Season 10 will arrive in a decent amount of time - 4-6 weeks perhaps. Cheers to you!!!
