About the Author

Steven Rose is Professor of Biology and Director of the Brain and Behaviour Research Group at the Open University. THE CHEMISTRY OF LIFE (1966) was his first book. Since then he has written many others, including, in Penguin, NOT IN OUR GENES (1984) and LIFELINES (1997). He won the 1993 Rhone-Poulenc Science Book Prize for THE MAKING OF MEMORY.

Can't grasp Biochemistry? Trying to find a Biochemistry book that won't make you tear out your hair trying to understand the principles and concepts? Well look no further. This book is a wonderful and [finally] understandable introduction to the science of biochemistry. Plus it is very very readable and just as enjoyable! I never would have thought that anyone could make biochemistry either understandable or (gasp!) enjoyable, but Steven Rose has managed to do both, and do it with utter brilliance. Whatever other books or texts you might be using for your biochemistry classes or just reading to understand the concepts of biochemisty, do yourself a favor and get this book! You won't regret it.
