Product Description

From Amazon

Admittedly, we sometimes become oversentimental about motherhood. But in a climate of rampant cynicism and family disintegration, stories about maternal love, courage, devotion, and triumph can be immensely comforting and inspiring. Contributors such as Dave Barry, Barbara Bush, Reba McIntire, Erma Bombeck, and Joan Rivers offer celebrity appeal. But even more heart coddling are the stories by everyday women, sharing their intimate experiences about becoming a mother, almost losing a child, discovering miracles, and honoring the wisdom of grandmothers. Mothers of all ages will appreciate this book as a gift to themselves or as a gift to a beloved mom. But get out your handkerchiefs, the editors showed no restraint when it came to including tearjerkers. --Gail Hudson --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for all women Jan. 2 2004
By Dee
I received my first Chicken Soup book from my father six years back and since then there has been no stopping. I continue to be a voracious reader of these lovely series. I have recommended them to many of my friends too.
Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul is one book which I feel all women must read irrespective of whether they have arrived at the threshold of motherhood or not. Heart-warming stories, personal experiences, and moving tales comprise this book, which will on more than one occassion make you grab a tissue and wipe your moist eyes. The illustrations in this book are hilarious too. As you read this book, you shall reflect upon the happiness and pain of your own relationship with your mother. One of the finest and sweetest books you can gift to your near and dear ones. They will always thank you for this book.
I shall take the liberty of quoting one of the proverbs in this book.
"God cannot be everywhere so He made mothers."
There...I rest my case. Nothing further needs to be said in honor of this exquisite book.

This book had me reaching for the tissues at just about every story. I have a 3-month old baby girl who at first I thought was nothing but a nuisance. Then I began reading about how other parents felt at the birth of their children and how feelings of despair and frustration turned into love and care for these same little people. I also loved reading about how each stage of childhood progresses and the simple joys that can be experienced in each one. It felt odd but now I know how other mothers feel when they state that time goes by so quickly and before one knows it baby has become toddler which becomes child which becomes adolescent which becomes adult and then leaves to start their own cycle of life. A wonderful book to remind mothers of how special their relationships with their children really are regardless of their age- from the adult who comes to mom for advice to the child who says, " You are the best part of my day."

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching Oct. 17 1998
By A Customer
I recently purchased this book and have only a few more pages to read...all the stories are very touching/only a mother can relate, I believe. The one story which really sticks in my mind is the one about "My trip to Holland"...for anyone who has been blessed with a healthy child should read this story/it will make you look at your child and be thankful and it should help you look inside yourself and realize that patience for a normal child does not compare to the patience needed for a child with a disability.I think of that everytime I become upset or inpatient with my child/I realize how lucky we all are.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasure to read, warmed my heart. Feb. 16 1999

I thought this book was very enjoyable. I am an avid reader of the Chicken Soup for the Souls series and as a new mother I thought this book was perfect. Of course some of the stories are more touching than others, but they all sparked an emotional response from me. The format of short stories makes the book easy to read and hard to put down. I often find myself at night, saying, " Okay, I'll just read one more story" and 45 min later of course I'm still reading. I would recommend this book to all, mothers, children, fathers, grandparents. . ., but its a tear-jerker so remember the tissues!!

For years I have wanted to read the Chicken Soup series, but finances being limited, I had to wait until my mother bought me Chicken Soup for the Mothers Soul. What a tremendous delight.....I fully intended to only read a story a day so that it would last a while, but within 24 hours I had consumed every story in the book. My heart feels lighter and my thoughts began to look on my life as a mother and how my children percieve me. It makes you want to strive for the ultimate be a mother remembered with love and admiration. I am a fan of Chicken Soup for life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly inspirational!! Jan. 4 1999

I had heard about the books from a friend at work, and got three for Christmas (Woman's soul, Woman's soul II, and Mother's soul). I don't normally enjoy reading but could not put the books down, in a matter of a week, I read two of them. They are absolutely wonderful. The Chicken Soup for the Mother's soul, WOW, what a book! It's awesome, and the stories touch the heart. Some of them even bring tears to my eyes. I recommend these books to anyone and am forwarding the Mother's soul book onto my mother.

5.0 out of 5 stars It made me appreciate my mother all the more. Nov. 10 1998

My sisters and I gave this book to our mom for Mother's Day and she just loved it. When I went to Europe recently, I brought it with me and I cried and laughed alternately. Every story was so heartwarming, and it made me miss my mom back home. I shared it with 3 of my tourmates and they enjoyed a lot the little that they had read. They all wanted to get a copy to give to their own mothers. I can hardly wait for the second volume to come out. I hope it will be soon.

I have all the books. Keep one in my car, one in my desk, one by the reclining chair. Whenever I feel down, I pick one up. They even inspired me to write a few short stories about loves ones who've affected my life. It was a great treasure for them to see my feelings in writing. In addition to the book, a box of tissues is a required side dish. I recommend them to all my friends and purchase them frequently as gifts.
