These stories bring tears to my eyes. I love everyone of them and can relate to something in all of them. I have 5 grandchildren who are my world and have made being a parent worth all the trials & tribulations of my own children growing up. A grandchild's love is unconditional and their hugs touch your soul. Being a grandma is beyond description. You have to be one to know the feeling.
The story that Linda Defew wrote about her granddaughter typing with a pencil, mimicking the way she types is a very cute story. March 29 2011

Format: Paperback
I read the story submitted by Linda Defew about teaching her very young Granddaughter how to use the computer's word software to write her stories and memories was cute. Especially when the story reveals that Linda has to utilize a pencil to type her stories due to her arthritic hands. After her granddaughter watched and learned how to use the program, during her next visit, her granddaughter headed straight for the computer to ad to her story. Not only did her granddaughter remember how to start the computer, open the word program and then find the file she previously saved her story in. When Linda checked in to see how her granddaughter was doing with the computer, not only was she typing more of her story, she was also using the pencil to type just as Linda had been doing. It's amazing how young kids pick up on the smallest things. Such as noticing that Linda wrote with the aid of the pencil, so she mimicked her and used the pencil as well. Very well written & heartwarming. It's nice to read such stories. It shows that there are grandparents who still take the time to play with and teach their grandkids. It reminded me as a parent of two young kids, sometimes when you think they are not paying attention, be careful. You never know, they may pick up on more than we even know. This was my first purchase of a Chicken Soup for The Soul Book. However, as long as Linda Defew is contributing, I will continue to purchase these books. I really enjoyed the whole book, this story just grabbed my attention. If you are looking for some good ideas for things to do with your Granddaughter and a good all around read, this is an excellent source. Buy it!!!!

The Chicken Soup series of books has always warmed my heart, and this one does not disappoint. The stories are familiar to me beccause being a grandparent, there's nothing we like better than to share our stories.

I bought this book for a friend who was going through some rough times and needed to be encouraged and find things to laugh about and could even read stories to her grandchildren. She loved the book and it helped lift her spirit and move forward with more hope and just a little encouragement goes a long way. It's also a "safe" way of helping another w/o getting too involved or too personal in their own private business. A very thoughtful way to help another or for yourself even. There are Chicken Soup for the Soul books for every age and category; no problem matching up to someone's interest and in my view, you can't go wrong in buying these books.
Grandmothers March 20 2011
By Linda C. - Published on
Format: Paperback
Out of 101 stories, I had my favorites. Some pulled on my heart strings more than others, but there wasn't one single story where I couldn't see myself. This led me to an obvious conclusion -- grandmothers have hearts cut from the same pattern. Although our resolve remains strong as we raise our own children, our hearts soften and our fortitude relaxes as we welcome our new position as Grandmother.

My personal story, "No Greater Compliment," appears on page 171, one of the greatest compliments of my writing career!
