Product Description

In the harsh Scottish highlands of 1565, superstition and treachery threaten a truce between rival clans. It's a weak truce at first, bound only by an arranged engagement between Anne MacGregor and Niall Campbell-the heirs of the feuding families.

While Niall wrestles with his suspicions about a traitor in his clan, Anne's actions do not go unnoticed. And as accusations of witchcraft abound, the strong and sometimes callous Campbell heir must fight for Anne's safety among disconcerted clan members. Meanwhile his own safety in threatened with the ever-present threat of someone who wants him dead.
Will Niall discover the traitor's identity in time? Can Anne find a way to fit into her new surroundings? Will the two learn to love each other despite the conflict? With a perfect mix of a burgeoning romance and thrilling suspense, this book is historical fiction at its best.

From the Back Cover

In the harsh Scottish highlands of 1564, superstitions threaten a truce . . . a traitor plans his attack . . . and a new love is born.

An arranged betrothal was never the course Anne MacGregor imagined her life would take. Yet when her father explains that her cooperation is the only way to bring about the long-sought truce between feuding families, Anne has no other choice.

A simple ceremony pledging Anne's hand in marriage after one year of commitment is the only seal to the promise of peace. But when the arrangement requires the reluctant Anne to follow Niall Campbell back to his home, she soon discovers that peace is not so easily achieved. Before they even arrive, rumors about her abound, and her safety is threatened. Meanwhile, Niall's ascension as leader of his clan is in jeopardy, as a traitor works to bring about his downfall.

As Niall and Anne begin to see beyond each other's defenses, love takes them by surprise. But will it be enough to defeat their foes? Or will the truce be broken, their lives forfeit, and war return to their beloved land?

5.0 out of 5 stars "Child of the Mist" - by Kathleen Morgan Mar 1 2013

This book is a definite "5-star rating" !!! Having read previous novels by Kathleen Morgan, I felt confident to purchase "Child of the Mist" .... and I was NOT disappointed !!!
From the very first page through to the very last ... this story more than held me captive ... could hardly put the book down !
Set in the Scottish Highlands, in the year 1563 -- we are introduced to the hero of the story -- Niall Campbell; and one year later, introduced to the heroine -- Anne MacGregor. Fighting clans these two were. In a time where superstitious beliefs ruled ... and anyone practising 'healing methods' was basically considered to be a witch. But, that couldn't be farther from the truth - of our heroine, Anne.
As the two clans are "trying" to unite and work together ... Niall and Anne are basically forced to become bethrothed through a ceremony of 'handfasting' -- to join the two clans into friendship and trust. Neither wanted this truce !!!
The story/plot thickens starting in the very first chapter, and keeps you on edge throughout the entire book -- never learning until the very end .... "who" the deadly villain is -- causing chaos, havoc, deception, and deaths.
I found this novel to be -- exciting, intriguing, suspenseful, more than captivating, romantic, with even some humour.
My recommendation would be for: young adults through to senior ages. Excellent story, just excellent !!!

I enjoyed this book for the historical information that it contained. Although I did find it to be a basic love story more than historical. It was not a mediocre book.

It was truly a wonderful, exciting, and romantic book. A person that reads this book will feel the love and passion that the characters have for each other. They will also go through all the adventures and danger that the book entails. You'll want to read it again and again!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Read in a couple of hours but why bother
'Christian harlequin romance' is how I'd describe this writer. Not bad, just not my cup of tea. Gabaldon she is not.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy read
First book of a trilogy. Could have been better, a good theme but read like a Romance with very little substance. Didn't interest me enough to read the rest of the trilogy.
