Book Description

March 15 2007 0132223945 978-0132223942 8

The overarching theme of this text is an examination of students with exceptionalities within Canadian schools.  The book stresses the psychological, cognitive, social, and physical differences that more and less able learners bring to the teaching/learning situation, the unique difficulties faced by children who are exceptional, the developmental consequences of various exceptionalities, and the multiple types of interventions necessary to accommodate these students effectively in local schools.  The age range spans infants to young adults.

I have used this text (editions 2 through 8) for the past 18 years in our course I have taught. Although I have occasionally used other texts in addition to this one I have never found one that is as comprehensive as an introduction to Special Education in Canada.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too Much Highlighting! Jan. 13 2014

Although shipping was quite fast and physically the book is in good shape (no tears or rips). It was supposed to be gently or lightly used, with small amounts of highlighting, which I believe was stated on the website before purchasing it. I was very disappointed when I received the book and it was COVERED in notes and highlights and underlines, from clearly having been passed between several people. I would not have purchased this book had I known the extent of the highlights and notes. It makes this book incredibly difficult to get through.
