Format: Paperback
These stories are written in such a way that one is certain that the author is not an English-speaking person. They are a litle confusing at times and the abundance of typos adds to this confusion. The stories themselves are interesting and entertaining but it took a lot of concentration to actually get through the book.

While these stories were interesting, they were extremely hard to follow. The stories use an overwhelming amount of pronouns and it is easy to lose track of who is speaking. Furthermore, the material is extremely condensed so you'll often find characters in three or four settings within the same paragraph. The grammatical errors are also rampant, which was a clear oversight by any competent editor.

With my first reading I was unfairly critical. The Dover 1998 Edition is a a portion of the Stokes 1921 Edition. The 8th Dover chapter
is 16th in Stokes and essentially the same. The major difference roughly 1/4 of the stories being used in Dover edition. In both cases being from oral source this rendition is completely different than roughly three dozen other versions. The concepts are somewhat similar but very different deliveries. It is a short, quick, easily understood read with definite value.

Have loved all kinds of fairy tales all my life. Only one is better--which apparently no longer available. I read that book in 1940 or so. This one is next best.

I love Dover classics to get to know some cultural knowledge.
