Review
Graphics and presentation of material is excellent. Tables, boxed features and end-of-chapter summaries create a masterful flow of reviewing the material, chapter after chapter. Bob Shebib’s writing style is user friendly (i.e. sensitively warm and almost personable) and not academic lingo-jargon. This adds greatly to learning the practical application of concepts as presented. The writing is clear, consistent throughout and easily grasped by learners.

The major strength of this textbook is that it offers a thorough step by step process for teaching and learning the skills. This microskills approach is very effective and one that I have been using for six years. The summaries at the end of each chapter are well written and the exercises are well developed and demonstrate creative approaches to learning.
This book represents current thinking in the field particularly the chapter on cultural diversity.
