Product Description

Amazon.com

Don't expect a major artistic statement, but if you're one of the many who enjoy Ringo Starr's brand of bouncy, good-natured, All-Starr band pop, Choose Love won't disappoint. Granted, the songs (true to the title, mostly about love) break no new ground, lyrically or musically, but Ringo's in exceptionally good voice throughout and Mark Hudson's production--a mix of Magical Mystery Tour-era Beatles, a good helping of Traveling Wilburys, and a bit of rockabilly--is well suited to the tracks. High points are the shuffle of "Give Me Back the Beat"; the 12-string jangle of "I Do"; the circus psychedelia of the Chrissie Hynde duet, "Don't Hang Up"; and the entirely sincere "Oh My Lord," which, featuring Billy Preston on organ, Robert Randolph on wailing steel, and the Rose Stone Gospel Choir, is a page right out of the Quiet Beatle's songbook (in fact, Ringo considers it his "My Sweet Lord" and played Olivia Harrison an early demo because he felt "George would have loved it"). The Beatles aesthetic is all over Choose Love, and, with a few exceptions ("The Long and Winding Road is more than a song / Tomorrow Never Knows What Goes On"), it's all for the best. Ringo fans will be delighted and listeners to oldies stations may have a new item for their wish lists. --Benjamin Lukoff

Album Description

Choose Love is full of inspired songs of innocence and experience -- the heartfelt and heartening work of someone who’s lived a little and learned a lot. This is rousing, rough and ready rock & roll that lovingly embraces the past, but has its eye very much on our shared future. And it’s an album first and foremost about the best choice any of us have -- Love.

Though the new album features a few guests, notably Chrissie Hynde on “Don’t Hang Up,” roots guitarist Robert Randolph on “Fading In, Fading Out” and “Oh My Lord”, Billy Preston on “Oh My Lord,” Ringo and the Roundheads are once again at the beating heart of Choose Love.

All the tunes are good rock ones. A fresh and catchy record. I will listen to it again and again. Also check the last two Ringo's records Ringorama and Vertical Man each one raising a 4 stars on five'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ringo Starr's CD is good?, Jun 13 2005

I do not have the time to write a full out review talking about every single song on this album. However, I just wanted to comment on how, believe it or not, this CD is actually good!! I bought it as a joke for my mom. Ringo is the useless Beatle, he can't release a good album. I WAS DEAD WRONG!

And thankful for it too. I just bought myself a copy and would like to persuade anyone else to do the same.

RINNNNNNNNNNNGOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, Jun 22 2005

I've been a Ringo Starr fan for as long as I have been a Beatles fan. I've loved all of his albums, even those that weren't popular with critics. However, I must say that in his past four albums, since hooking up with Mark Hudson and the rest of the Roundheads, Ringo has really started define a "Ringo" sound, and the songs just keep getting better and better. His constant message of peace and love is refreshing. Go Ringo!

5.0 out of 5 stars You will grin, and you will be impressed!, July 29 2005

I can't add much to the string of positive reviews below, but I can add my opinion of where this falls in comparison to his other releases of his revitalized late 90's and 2000's releases: This is the best so far! While all of his albums have had some strong songs and make me happy that he's still out there doing the "peace and love" thing, this album is strong from start to finish, all 12 tracks. I listened to it at work and had a big smile on my face the whole time. My coworkers were wondering why I was looking so happy! If you're a Ringo fan, or a Beatles fan (and if you aren't you probably aren't reading this), then trust me you will really enjoy this. To quote a Beatles song (as Ringo loves to do), you're "getting better all the time."

5.0 out of 5 stars Choose Love indeed!, Jun 8 2005

This is a terrific Ringo CD. "Give Me Back The Beat" is my favorite, but all of the songs are excellent. Mark Hudson's (and Ringo's) production is solid, filling the tracks with the trademarked sound that we've come to expect - and love.

Even the booklet is a joy, with very nice collages and a Ray Charles quote that will make your day.

Ringo's never sounded better, and Choose Love brings a smile to my face every time I listen. Bravo, Ringo!
