Product Description

Product Description

The four original members of SLAYER - Tom Araya, Kerry King, Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo - the pioneers and undisputed kings of extreme speed/thrash metal, will release CHRIST ILLUSION, the band's first new studio album since 1990's SEASONS IN THE ABYSS. And if that's not enough, uber-producer Rick Rubin, who helped solidify the much-emulated Slayer sound beginning with their genre-defining 1986 classic REIGN IN BLOOD, has taken the helm as executive producer of the project. The original recording team is back in place. CHRIST ILLUSION deals with familiar Slayer themes - god, religion, hate, and war.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better, but not classic. Aug 10 2006

Format:Audio CD
Same style and bag of tricks as always, which is getting a little old and predictable. The thing that made the band's classic three albums (Reign In Blood, South of Heaven, & Seasons in the Abyss) so incredible was their willingness to experiment. Unfortunatle, Kerry King wrote most of this album, and he pretty much writes the same song about the same subject over and over again. Personally, I think the songwriting collaborations of Jeff Hanneman and Tom Araya have made for some of the best and interesting Slayer songs over years (Jihad on this album would be an example). Dave Lombardo back on drums is a huge bonus, giving this album more of that classic Slayer drive. If you really like Slayer, you'll like this. However, I wouldn't recommend it as someone's first Slayer album. Go with one of the classic three.

It seems everything this band does is fantastic! This effort is no different. When I first heard Slayer, thought "great riffs, too bad the singer sucks and they can't solo", but these guys grow on ya. Great album

The DVD featured the Grammy-winning song, Eyes of the Insane- which won best metal performance. Cult, Jihad, Black Serenade and Final Six are the best songs on this album. The DVD features a live performance of South of Heaven from their upcoming live CD. Slayer has delivered a classic album with Christ Illusion and I have to wonder why they repackaged the album- unless it was for the hardcore fans who can't get enough of Slayer. Either way, it's still one of the best metal albums from 2006.
