Product Description

From Amazon.com

From the album's opening notes--the thumping bass of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" with the Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan--you know immediately that you're in store for a unique disc of holiday music. Featuring an eclectic bunch of Nettwerk Records' roster and friends, the simply titled Christmas Songs features not so simple performances by the likes of McLachlan ("Song for a Winter's Night"), Dido ("Christmas Day"), Matthew Ryan ("Little Drummer Boy"), and Kendall Payne ("O Come, O Come Emmanuel"). The diverse offerings here can be overwhelming; Meryn Cadell's "The Cat Carol" is a traditional folk tune, while Delerium's "Terra Firma" is an ethereal taste of seasonal electronica. That said, there's probably something for everyone here. --Jason Verlinde

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, Nov 28 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Christmas Songs Nettwerk Chri (Audio CD)
I bought this album because I bought that Now That's What I Call Christmas album about 3 years ago and it had Sarah McLaughlin's "Song for a Winter Night" and I fell in love with it. Unfortunately, during the four moves that have happened since that time, I lost the CD. I bought the same CD that they had and it's totally different!

I've searched high and low for that same song and this was the first album I found it on. I LOVE that song. The other songs are great, too. I liked the BNL song and Dido has a really crisp, beautiful voice in "Christmas Day."

Highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cat Lovers Fear Not, Sep 30 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Christmas Songs Nettwerk Chri (Audio CD)
The Cat Carol is a beautiful song for anyone who LOVES cats. Sad does not mean bad. The rest of the CD is pure holiday bliss. If you have any musical taste whatsoever, and appreciate interesting arrangements of holiday classics, then this is a MUST for your collection. "It's in Everyone of Us" is so special, as is this version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen."

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Christmas Flavor, Jun 20 2003
By
Millertime "cpmiller_unc94" (Pinehurst, North Carolina United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Christmas Songs Nettwerk Chri (Audio CD)
This album is truely unique among Christmas albums and a nice break from what we think of as traditional Christmas music. One of the reasons I like the album so much is that it contains many songs that I'd never heard before. Also, the last track is a Christmas story, and it's a real hoot! Finally, the version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan is the best I've heard.
