A lonely cottage in the Irish countryside...a rare snowstorm the night before Christmas Eve...
Recent widow Maeve O’Donoghue doesn't have the heart to celebrate Christmas this year, even though she’s taking care of her young granddaughters. In this tender, magical tale, a mystical encounter and a bit of fairy lore helps a grieving family heal, and rediscover the true meaning of Christmas.

The 2nd short story in the Village of Ballydara series, The Christmas Visitor is the sequel to the touching and heartwarming tale, The Secret Well.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Short Story Will Touch Your Heart Oct. 14 2012

"The Christmas Visitor" reminds us of the simple joys during the most wonderful time of the year. This lovely short story takes us into the lives of an Irish family facing a terrible loss, leaving some members in no mood for celebrating the holidays. The universe works in mysterious (or we could say even mystical) ways, helping the very real characters rediscover the beauty of Christmas... and the gifts in their own lives. While this touching tale will have you longing for snowy winter evenings spent by the fire and wanting to deck the halls, its timeless message of hope will speak to your heart any time of the year.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Christmas Visitor March 12 2013

This was a great read and I was disappointed when it came to an end. When I bought it I didn't realise it was a short story. The characters were all believable and the story flowed well. I would happily buy another short story or novel by the same author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant light read Sept. 6 2012

The Christmas Visitor was a delight.not quite the concise weaving that Maeve Binchy creates--- but a really good try. This family needed some joy in their lives and a stranger was able to generate it. A short story well worth reading.Make it longer next time....We all can use some bits of "Magic" in our lives to keep our spirits up -- when we are down.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love Irish stories............... Sept. 3 2013

I love Irish stories but not as much as I do Christmas stories. This was both. It was really short but it ended with a slot to allow a continuing story and I am looking forward to it. It is hard - after reading 'The Christmas Visitor' - not to believe in fairies...............
