Product Description

From Amazon.com

Their comparison to the Beatles and Beach Boys' experimental sounds are inevitable. However, the layered, psychedelic pop generated by the Circulatory System is not mimicry, but a wonderful adaptation of a genre long lost to mainstream music. At its core the Circulatory System is E6's Olivia Tremor Control, minus Bill Doss. Containing a healthy dose of OTC's recognizable meditative harmonies, Circulatory System incorporates a dark, intoxicating aspect making this album very unique. It is recommended to give this one a few preliminary listens before casting judgment. Circulatory System is fairly complex. Though the elements are engrossing, the 'whole picture' is seemingly non-existent. Then, all of a sudden, something will happen. The veil of confusion will lift and the entirety of the work will be brought into vivid clarity. Before you realize it the hypnotic melodies will have seeped into your subconscious and you'll find yourself humming them in your dreams. Circulatory System is quite a find. --Rob Bracco

5.0 out of 5 stars a timeless classic, Jun 18 2004
This review is from: Circulatory System (Audio CD)
Words cannot describe the effect this album has had on me. Will Cullen Hart is a genius, and the layered sound on "A Peek" alone is worth the buy. Beautiful, haunting, dreamlike soundscapes and insanely memorable melodies - all packed into one beautiful work.

4.0 out of 5 stars while certainly no OTC album..., Jun 11 2004
This review is from: Circulatory System (Audio CD)
circulatory system is a great debut, and one of my favourites of 2001.

circulatory system mixes the Olivia Tremor Control and Neutral milk hotel. has some band members of OTC and has the amazing lyrics like NMH. consider this the "silver mount zion (GY!BE side-project" of OTC. i'd call it a side-project.

theres nothing wrong with the album, its just its about 20 minutes less of a OTC record would be. most songs are shorts, but also like OTC theirs some that reach five or six minutes. and its more of a pop album rather than the psychadelia of "Dusk at cubist castle" and experimental of "Black Foliage". if you happen to have any E6 records and not have this, its a buy!!! and check out this lyrics from "should a cloud replace a compass" -- one of my favourite songs on the record.

"rain makes shapes fall on the lights
and thelamppostss, door to door
should a cloud replace a compass?
how long can we think of the world
as simply up or down (black and white)
when inside out has come (and gone)
telephone wires, they may never reach
you, they climb up so high, but still
they never reach you (that's a good thing)"

5.0 out of 5 stars People made of paper come and go..., Mar 22 2004

This review is from: Circulatory System (Audio CD)
Utterly coherent and interstellar at the same time, this is the psychedelic album that an ADHD kid would make. Will Hart, of Olivia Tremor Control, goes it alone (not really, because like most of the psychedelic Elephant 6 albums there's about five million insturments on here and twenty credited players). The melodies on half the songs are unbelievably beautiful and on the other half you don't care because you're still humming the last song. This is the epitome of psychedelic pop- only three songs last more than three minutes and there's 22 songs. It is also highly schizophrenic- turn up the headphones and hear the background conversations, water running, and footsteps or turn it down and zone out while you go to sleep. Don't think five stars is faint praise, either. I know this guy helped make Black Foliage and Music From the Unrealized Script but beyond the Neutral Milk's Aeroplane Over the Sea this is my favorite E6 recording. Also, don't miss Jeff Mangum taking a break from recording Bulgarian Field music, right past the train choo choo and the rushing waves at the beginning of "How Long" you will hear Mr. Mangum, which might not be much but is still better than hearing him jump on a furnace for Of Montreal.
