Book Description

Sam has always wanted a dog, but Jenny is a dog like no other. She has come from another world?a parallel world of mythology, where the whims of the gods decide the course of Destiny. Jenny fled in terror after her attempt to save the life of her first beloved boy interrupted the gods? plans for a battle for control of the world. But now her escape threatens Sam?s world as well. So Jenny has to convince her motley pack of dog friends?tiny Pico, giant Gentleman Jim, slow-moving Boris, excitable Checkers, and nervous Flo?that it?s their destiny to restore the worlds to order before it?s too late.

Norse mythology, a huge respect for the hearts and minds of dogs, and many dashes of humor combine to tell the tale of a grand, epic quest to save the world for humans, gods, and dogs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for kids, Sep 27 2010

My Grandson (6 years old) picked this book because it had dogs on the cover. It was a bit old for him but we read it together and discussed a lot of the more detailed parts. I thought the story was a bit complicated for younger children but it was a basic tale of good versus evil and since good wins in the end it was all fine. There was a part where a sub character dies which was a bit hard on my 6 year old but it fit the story so we discussed it. He understood why it had to happen and accepted it as part of the story and we went on. It was quite good at introducing mythology and astrology to a young audience and we have moved on to other books involving both subjects. I would recommed this book to an older child (9 or 10) to read alone, or as we did, an adult/child joint read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Norse thriller, Mar 7 2009

I bought this for a niece and always read books myself before foisting them on a kid. I couldn't put it down. Maybe it's because as a kid I was really into Norse Mythology and this is strongly connected to it, but it's also a story of good people (or dogs) trying hard to do the right thing despite their weaknesses. A pink poodle defeats (eventually) Fenrir for instance, and lots more heroism beneath what's a very ordinary setting on the surface.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Norse Mythology Tale, Oct 13 2009
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: City of Dogs (Hardcover)
This is not one of the greastest books in the world, but it is a inserting tale for mythology and animal lovers alike. This story is about a dog name Jenny who was chased out of her home, Ragnarok. Jenny is later found by a boy name Sam and soon becomes friends with the other local dogs. Jenny is no ordinary dog from the start and soon sparks something in each dog which leads them on a extraordinary journey. The characters have some depth because a chapter is spent on each of the important minor characters. Their could have been a little more action considering Norse mythology was involved in the plot. This was a sweet book but I would not go out of my way to reccomend this book to my friends.
