A decent way to explore the city,
By
This review is from: City Walks: Toronto (Cards)
The basic idea is sound: a card with a map on one side and directions on the other. The card fits neatly in a breast pocket, making it perfect for a casual walk. The descriptions of various points-of-interest are necessarily very abbreviated, so a supplemental guidebook (or pre-walk research on the internet) is recommended for the curious. If you are familiar with the walks in Lonely Planet guidebooks, then think of those with sparser commentary. The cards are reasonably sturdy but not waterproof, which is a disadvantage in the rain or on a hot sweaty summer day. This is a decent way to explore the city of Toronto, as long as by "Toronto" you mean mostly the old pre-amalgamation City of Toronto. There are very few walks in what used to be the suburbs, but are now part of the city. One could argue that there isn't as much that's interesting out there, but some of the downtown walks aren't terribly interesting either and could easily have been omitted. All walks are TTC-accessible, which is very handy for tourists and residents alike. My biggest complaint is that very little attention is spent on architecture and history, compared to shopping and eating. (I'll also quibble with card #37: the ROM is a destination, not a walk!)
