Simply lovely Jan. 25 2010

I just received this cd and am in love! I have always wanted to love classical music, but found too many of the arrangements a bit stuffy. These arrangements are light and airy and just beautiful. David displays his enormous talent without feeling the need to show off. Add this to your collection. Oh, and the pictures on the insert are an added bonus!

If you are a fan of David Garrett, you simply must add this cd to you collection. It absolutely showcases the enormity of his talent and the depth of emotion with which he plays. Although all selections are 'classics', each and every one bears his unique style and amazing technical skill.Keep them coming, David. You are a force to be reckoned with!

My favorite CD Feb. 1 2011

I LOVE David Garrett - I actually don't have enough words to describe how much I love his music...this is my third album by him and though I love them all, this one is my favorite, which surprises me a little because I love his rock treatments and haven't really enjoyed classical music that much. However, the purity of the violin and the musicality of this album has just won me over completely. I listen to it everyday, and have new favorites regularly. Right now, I'm loving "None but the Lonely heart" by Tschaikowski, which just tugs at my heart, and feels very contemporary to me. I also adore Mendelssohn's violin concerto - all three movements. I find the music on this album both comforting and exhilirating at the same time. The tone in David Garrett's playing is so pure and beautiful and the pitch so excellent. I can't wait for his next album, which I hope comes soon!

SO GLAD I BOUGHT IT!! July 20 2011

I'm new to Classical Music. David Garrett's Classic Romance is a treasure to have. I love the fact that it has my 2 favorite classical tunes - Schubert's Serenade and Dvorak's Humoresque. BUT THE WHOLE ALBUM IS GREAT!!! Ever since I discovered the beauty of classical music through David Garrett, I have accumulated quite a few classical albums ranging from Dvorak to Tchaikovsky, Mozart to Vivaldi, Beethoven to Bach, Bizet to Sarasate, etc, and I listen to classical music 95 percent of the time now. It's just beautiful music!!! For those who haven't taken the plunge into classical music, try David Garrett first and you won't be disappointed.

Great Romance! Aug. 29 2014

The violin renders 12 irresistible romances on this CD.

1. Humoresque
An instantly engaging, light-hearted skipping tune. The sweet singing violin seduces with spontaneous lyricism and warm affection from the beginning, building to an impassioned climax in minor key before waltzing into a new round of romantic courtship.

2. Méditation
The intimate interlude from opera Thais follows the courtesan's inner struggle contemplating the direction of her life. Subtle and sensitive orchestra accompaniment (with harp) creates an emotionally safe feel as the violin sings the endlessly flowing melody with beautiful legato, tear-choked narrow vibrato and dynamically contained searing emotions.

3. None But The Lonely Heart
Emotionally lavish, very Tchaikovsky with powerful emotional directness, impassioned melancholy and magnificent sentiment. The smoldering violin renders ambivalent, hidden passions with dynamic bowing and continuous vibrato to amplify and echo surging emotions and intense longing.

4. Serenade
The lyrical melody is thoroughly enchanting as the sweetly crooning violin conveys feelings of love, affection and longing with elegant legato phrasing and singing double-stops.

5. Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Tune) - 1: Moderato
A declamatory and passionate Gypsy-style melody featuring sweeping scales in both directions, big leaps of low/high notes, virtuoso paraphrases in different octaves, frequent change of rhythm, and sudden dynamic changes. The violin intonation is pure, elegant and intensely expressive.

6. Zigeunerweisen - 2: Un peu plus lent
A surging emotional gypsy melody of gripping romantic yearning. The violin renders the tune with sensuous rubato, emotion-enriched trills and expressive grace notes.

7. Zigeunerweisen - 3: Allegro molto vivace
A fiery, impulsive virtuoso piece. The dashing violin seduces with dazzling pyrotechnics like none other than Garrett: scampering arpeggios up and down in heroic leaps, exciting swoops, expressive slides, busy left and right hand pizzicato faster than one can say pizzicato.

8. Salut d'amour
A wonderfully romantic tune. The liltingly energized violin projects and induces all the beautiful feelings one experiences when falling head over heels in love.

9. Vocalise
From the evocative beginning, the violin is in passionate moods, outpouring love in highly nuanced timbre through sustained, long legato lines, fearless and without regrets. Expect to be overpowered as the impassioned violin turns dark and blazing, paraphrasing the opening theme in lower register from 01:38.

10. Mendelssohn Violin Concerto - 1: Allegro molto appassionato
Almost immediately the impassioned violin leaps into the gorgeous soaring theme. The passionate orchestra joins and repeats the theme and the romantic narrative proceeds beautifully, led by the violin's naturally breathed phrasing and ravishingly expressive intonation, into a stunning, highly charged cadenza before the violin beckons the orchestra to revisit the opening theme and resume the beautiful journey.

11. Mendelssohn Violin Concerto - 2: Andante
The slow movement is tender and lyrical as the violin romanticizes into uncharted waters, ringing out darkly beautiful disconsonant double-stops, before resuming the sweet melodic rhythm.

12. Mendelssohn Violin Concerto - 3: Allegro molto vivace
An animated movement in sonata form. The playful violin leads a happy journey through flying virtuoso passages with nonchalant ease through to the boisterous grandioso coda. The orchestral accompaniment is warm and sunny.
