5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Transformers from a bygone era, Mar 2 2012

I became a Transformers fan in an unusual way. I saw the movie back in 1986 when I purchased my first video cassette recorder. I bought it in the hope of watching some good animation. I didn't expect the Optimus Prime to perish along with the rest of the cast. The producers were very confident that they could present new set of characters for it's evolution.

On to the comics. I love the old school pen and ink comics from my era, the 1970's. Without all the computer enhancements. The writers have set up a great mythology and I can't stop buying all these volumes until the story is finished. When I look at some of these stories, sure, some of them are silly. However they have an innocence that is very scarce in comic books today. Everything has to be dark, brooding and serious today for the modern reader.

When I look at what is available today for comics, I have to say a lot of the super hero ones are sadly lacking. Transformers was in a class all by itself because each robot had a distinct personality. If you like fun comics, this is a collection you can't beat. It's at an economical price. In comparison to lots of graphic novels today this is a bargain.
