Product Description

From Amazon

Drawing on the success of her first book, Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui, Karen Kingston has met popular demand by expanding on the indispensable activity of clearing clutter. There is very little of actual Feng Shui here, and certainly nothing you can't get elsewhere, but the clutter problem gets full and complete treatment. Kingston reminds us that clutter is stuck energy that keeps you stuck in undesirable life patterns. Therefore, you can "sort out your life by sorting out your junk." Kingston covers the reasons we keep things as well as the amazing stories of people who have cleared their clutter away. More than just junk, clutter is all those things that have negative symbology and that collect stagnant energy. This latter can also apply to bodily, emotional, and spiritual clutter, all of which Kingston describes with characteristic passion. In an age of accumulation, it's good to see a book that frees up life again.

Review

"A great book and long overdue.  I have read it twice in a week. . . . Thanks, Karen Kingston, for helping me to simplify my life in a joyful way."
--Louise L. Hay, author of Empowering Women and You Can Heal Your Life

"Elevates cleaning clutter from a mundane task to an experience of the sublime."
--Michelle Passoff, author of Lighten Up! Free Yourself From Clutter

First Sentence
I once met a woman who set off traveling around the planet with little more than the ticket to her first destination in her pocket, but she had one extraordinary skill-the ability to read people's palms-and no matter where she went, she was never short of a place to sleep or food to eat. Read the first page

This book is not about feng shui. It is simply about decluttering your household (and your body, for those of you who are prepared to read about colon cleansing) from the perspective of a feng shui practitioner. If you want a book about feng shui, get something else.
I am always highly suspicious of any book that gets "This changed my life" reviews. I find the more people write glowing categorical reviews of that nature, the more others feel the need to slam what's being reviewed and call it useless. When you open a book expecting miracles, you'll get disappointed.
That being said:
Personally, I couldn't put this book down. I hadn't planned to buy something like this (I generally avoid self-help books), but when I thumbed through it in the bookstore I was hooked. I kept finding myself and my situation in what she was writing about. Having finished it, I've started to tackle some of the clutter that's sat around my apartment for months.
The author walks her talk, and is quite readable. There were a couple of grammatical issues I thought a good proofreader would catch ("disorientating" in the place of "disorienting", for example), and I do feel that the chapter on bodily health insisted too much on fasting and colon cleansing for the context of the book, and should have been seriously pared down or cut entirely. This book addresses homes, and the health of the body is a subject requiring several books of its own. But if you're feeling depressed by the clutter in your life, and your problem is not so much time as motivation to make a change, this book could be very useful for you.
I know I'm keeping my copy.

The author does provide several good clues for clearling clutter but the message is obscured with her incesstant self-promotion. She provides scant clues to Feng Shui, so little in fact that she could have dropped Feng Shui from the title made no changes to the text. Her book reads more like an advertistment for her dubious services than a help book for those needing to find the benefits of losing their clutter.
If you are into rebirthing, crystal power and the other trappings of new age nonsense, this is the book for you. If you are after a good book on clearing clutter save your money and look elsewhere.

This book has permanently altered my relationship to things and energy. It is so much FUN! After I read it I went out and bought four copies and gave them away making each recipient promise to then pass it on to the next person! You'll love it.

This book is amazing. I have an earlier version without the photographed cover, but it's very easy to read. Karen uses very straight-forward and practical instructions. A third of the way through the book, I already wanted to start clearing away the clutter. I have noticed a remarkable difference immediately after tossing out three garbage bags and donating a sandwich back of loose change to charity. I'm much more revitalized. Since I'm moving house, I've been clearing out unnecessary clutter where I can and plan to take this book with me to my new place.
Additionally helpful are the last two chapters on clearing clutter of the body, i.e. impurities. She stressed the importance of a cleansed colon and how bowel movment irritations could also be a contributor of negative energy. Not an attractive subject to discuss, I admit, but after following a few of her tips, she was completely right. I felt better instantly.
A very reasonable guide to for those just beginning to understand feng shui.

At this point, I still don't know much about Feng Shui. The book caught my eye at the library for some unknown reason and I started reading it only because it was the thinnest book on my night stand. A day after turning the first page, I was driving my pickup truck back and forth to the recycling center.
I doubt everyone will find the same tonic when reading the book, but it worked for me. I think it provided a non-dogmatic twist on 'cleanliness (clutterless-ness) is next to Godliness' and 'the truth (no clutter) will set you free'. Additionally, I suspect the exercise of thinking about family, friends, fame, prosperity, creativity, health, knowledge and livelihood as distinct issues can't hurt.

I bought this book because I have taken a recent interest in the study of Feng Shui. It turns out that the book is less about the practice of Feng Shui and more about the process of de-cluttering that helps the energy of your house and your life.
I read through it in no time and was totally inspired to make a change. Unlike other books of its kind, this book gives you real practical ways of eliminating clutter from your life. I especially liked the way she helped me make decisions about what to keep and what to get rid of.
A weight has been lifted. This book has totally changed my life! Buy it!

Format: Paperback
This is one of my favorite books on clutter clearing. Very readable in small manageable chapters and topic sections. The author's ideas about room flow, space, and energy make intuitive sense and are easy to apply. Ideas are both pragmatic and thoughtful. I learned to "see" clutter I had been missing and to think about some of the consequences of clutter that I hadn't considered before! This book also addresses the sometimes neglected topics of mental, emotional, and spiritual clutter.
