5.0 out of 5 stars oh please..., April 26 2006
By
This review is from: CliffsNotes on Tolkien;s The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit (Paperback)
The people who comlained about this book are obviously not students in high school, which, might I add, is who this book is directed at. The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series might be pleasant to read for leisure but to complete essay's that deal with section's of the book an average reader would not pick up, or even begin to think about, is very trying and difficult. This book is very useful, and I give it 5 stars for any grade 12 english student.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough detail, compared to the books., Oct 13 2002
This review is from: CliffsNotes on Tolkien;s The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit (Paperback)
"Cliffsnotes the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit" condensed the first book in the series tremendously! I am only rating the CliffsNotes for Book 1, as that is the only book I have read in the series. The notes are very general and skip over some events, so it's wise to read this after you have read "The Fellowship of The Ring." As always, read the CliffsNotes AFTER you have read "The Fellowship of The Ring." I do not recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Accurate, Jan 13 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: CliffsNotes on Tolkien;s The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit (Paperback)
Although it is not a substitute for these four great books (there are so many errors and things like that), this Cliff Notes edition is a pretty good read for a fan of the books or a person struggling with them. It is a lot better than the Barron's Book Notes, to say the least. First, The Hobbit summary is really good. Except for a few minor inaccuracies, this is a very good summary of the Hobbit, probably the best one out there. Even the LOTR one is okay, except for they use all kinds of politically correct terms (Black Riders are Dark Riders), and other miscillany (the Hardy dude does not even mention where Bilbo is going, until the Rivendell part). So, if you need help with the books, this will suffice. Also of note: the whole part in the back about the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Ages is really a summary of the Silmarillion. Go figure.
