This book is a Scientology Propaganda Piece 100%, Jan 18 2004

This review is from: Cloning of the American Mind: Eradicating Morality Through Education (Paperback)
As a Health Educator with Master's level training, I took an interest in this book. After reading nearly a third (200 pages) or so of the book, I began to realize that this was a propoganda piece by the enemy of free speech known as the Church of Scientology. Ironically, the Church is not a church nor is there ANY science behind any of their malicious claims and attacks. It may be true that there are abuses within psychiatry, medicine or the mental health fields, AS THERE ARE IN EVERY OTHER PROFESSION INCLUDING THE CLERGY. I strongly advise readers not to buy this cleverly crafted collection of half-truths, misinformation and slander. The internet is a great instrument for exposing the lies and fraud from organizations like "The Citizens Commission for Human Rights" which is analogous to Hitler's SS in its assault on psychiatry.

Great book with small flaws., Dec 23 2003
This review is from: Cloning of the American Mind: Eradicating Morality Through Education (Paperback)
This is an absolutely terrifying book, and makes the thoughtful reader fear for the future of the country. It makes me glad I homeschool. It is well-documented and comprehensive, so much so that it can be difficult to read at times and needs to be digested in chunks. My only complaint about the book - and I realize that I am a bit of a "grammar snob" :) - is that it is marred by ubiquitous grammar and punctuation errors - misplaced commas, mismatched tenses, poor sentence structure, etc. I don't know if Ms. Eakman is just a poor writer, or if her editor was asleep on the job, or if the book was rushed into print before it was adequately proofread. However, it would literally be difficult to find a single page without a blatant punctuation error, a really awkward sentence structure, or some grammatical goof. This is ironic - and disappointing - in a book about the quality of education. That said, I would still wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone interested in the roots and direction of modern elementary and secondary school curricula.

An Accurate Description of Public Education, Dec 12 2002
This review is from: Cloning of the American Mind: Eradicating Morality Through Education (Paperback)
"Cloning of the American Mind: Eradicating Morality through Education" is one of the best books I have ever read. The book discusses, in detail, the dark side of public education and the role of psychiatry and psychology have had in perverting education. Having worked for about 3 years as a substitute teacher, in two very different school systems, I witnessed firsthand some of what the book discusses. To an extent, I can also confirm the claims the book makes concerning psychology, as I have an advanced degree in the subject (MA, general psychology). This is definitely a book every parent, teacher, and anyone involved with public education should read.
