Book Description

The tiny town of Chewandswallow was very much like any other tiny town except for its weather which came three times a day, at breakfast lunch and dinner.

But it never rained rain and it never snowed snow and it never blew just wind. It rained things like soup and juice. It snowed things like mashed potatoes. And sometimes the wind blew in storms of hamburgers.

Life for the townspeople was delicious until the weather took a turn for the worse. The food got larger and larger and so did the portions. Chewandswallow was plagued by damaging floods and storms of huge food. the town was a mess and the people feared for their lives.

Something had to be done, and in a hurry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tickles a child's sense of silliness!, April 29 2004

This is a funny book with an imaginative concept--the people of the town CHEWANDSWALLOW eats what drops from the sky--orange juice rain, pancakes floating down, hamburgers on a stormy day. The climate goes awry and the people set sail on stale bread boats to move to a world where food is bought in the supermarket. The illustrations are very funny, moving from line drawings in black and white to lovely colored illustrations as the fantasy story begins. This story appeals to a wide range of ages, from 3 to 7 or 8. The text would be challenging for a first grade reader but the concept appeals to pre-schoolers as well as older kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Weather, Jan 28 2009

I remember this book coming out when I was in primary school and it made one of the most lasting impressions to my memory. After trying to remember what the name of it was, I was much delighted that doing a search for "Food Weather" yielded the answer I had long ago forgotten.

This book is a wonderful little story about a "made up" town and its peculiar weather patterns. The illustrations are wondefully rendered (the giant donuts were what I remembered most vividly) and the story is just right for beinning readers.

I truly enjoyed this book as a child and I look forward to teaching my son to read this one. Yummy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully creative art and story! It sure beats raining cats and dogs!, Jun 3 2006

This book is one of the most amusing kid's story I've ever read. The author must have had a double dose of imagination when she wrote this little gem. While I liked the old black-and-white illustrations, these new colored ones are simply awesome.

What sounds like a lot of fun to the kids in the town of Chewandswallow (food raining from the sky) actually turns out rather distrastrous! A hilarious, unforgettable adventure!

There's something to be said for the good ol' supermarket, after all.

But RFY (read for yourself)! I guarantee this book will "rain" smiles and laughs down on you. It certainly beats raining cats and dogs! I loooooooove it ... as do my grandchildren!

For kids of ALL ages, including grandparents and politicians!
