I Absolutely Love It!!!,
This review is from: Coby MID7012-4G 7-Inch Kyros Android 2.3 4 GB Internet Touchscreen Tablet (Black) (Personal Computers)
Delivery was really fast. I ordered this tablet late Sunday night Feb. 5th. Was expecting it Friday the 10th, but received it on Tuesday the 7th! Wow!I absolutely love it!!! I searched the internet for reviews on this item before I bought it. Most people really liked it. I think that those that didn't were expecting it to do the same things that an Ipod or Ipad can do. If you want that kind of performance then you need to pay the extra and get the Ipod or Ipad! Actually two of my sons have ipods and I personally don't like them. They are really small and hard for me to operate or see anything on them. And I can download the apps and most of the books that I want straight onto my tablet, I don't need to hook up to my computer all the time. I originally had the Coby Kyros 7015 (sadly, I lost it), the operation of it is basically the same so I'm familiar with how to use this one (7012). You have to learn how to use this before you consider it garbage. The resistive screen works fine, you have to CALIBRATE it. It only takes a few seconds. Use the app that is on the unit that looks like a crosshairs target and says "Calibration" (I used my finger when calibrating). Now I can use either my finger (with a bit more pressure than you would use on a capacitive screen) or my nail or the styus it comes with. It does take a little getting used to. Honestly, I prefer to use my nail, the screen dosen't get all those greasy ugly fingerprint marks/smudges on it, so the resistive is great for me. [UPDATE:(Mar.17) It's been over a month now and felt I should add that while this tablet does work with your finger, it works BEST with your fingernail or stylus. I have some length to my fingernails so no problems for me, but my sons nails are really short, and he has difficulty unless he uses the stylus.] It is only a single touch/tap screen, so games that require multiple touch won't work and to zoom in or out you can either double tap, or for a lesser zoom use the + and - buttons that show up at the bottom when you move/scroll the screen. When you first get this the brightness setting is low. If you find it too dim, just adjust the brightness in the settings menu (press the settings app, then display, then brightness). When reading a book you can adjust the brightness just by sliding your finger up and down the left side of the screen. TO DELETE A BOOK: (It took me a while to figure this out so I'm mentioning it here.) Open your ereader app: Aldiko, Nook, Kobo or whatever. In the library find the icon of the book you want to delete, press and HOLD that icon until a window/bubble/menu pops up with the options "open, details, delete" press delete. Voila! It's gone. (I use "FBreader" app. because you can change the background and text color, BOLD the print and change the size, plus a lot of other options. I just download from Aldiko or wherever, but I open the books in FBreader to read them.) Some things just take a little time and effort to figure them out. If you can't figure something out, Google it, there is all kinds of help and suggestions out there. This unit has Getjar market not appslib (appslib will no longer work at the end of Feb). You can't get the android market in Canada, yet (lots of sites say there is a work around but I haven't been able to get it). There are other markets and sites that offer free downloads you just need to search around. You are not limited to just the markets. [UPDATE(Mar.17): I've got the Slideme Marketplace now, I just downloaded it right on to my tablet from the slideme site. I also have Google Android market (the app takes me to the Google Play Market site, which, I believe, is THE Android Market but is now available to us Canadians). I could not download this app strainght to my tablet. I had to use my computer and transfer the necessary files to the kyros. It was really easy though, even for me, who has a very limited understanding of all the new technology. Google "how to get android market on kyros 7012", there is a link to a page that gives you EASY step by step instructions on how to get the app on this device. I don't think Amazon will let me say anything more on how to do it, but I figured it out, so hopefully you can too. I still can't get the Amazon Market to work though. I got the app, can access the site but when I try to download, it says I need a US credit card. Oh well, like I said there are other markets out there and maybe Amazon will get the hint.] I actually like this one better than my lost 7015. It has android 2.3 so games like angry birds work well on it, though I don't seem to be able to zoom out so I can see the whole screen at once (the 7015 had white boxes all over the screen, so I couldn't see ANYTHING on it, it's only an android 2.1). This one (7012) is lighter and more compact too. Much more convenient for on the go travel. After I lost my other Kyros I thought I'd get a bigger tablet. So I bought a 10" Veiwsonic Gtab, spent $230 + tax. The bigger screen is nice and it has the capacitive touch, but I found it too big and bulky, not so convenient. And all those greasy fingerprint smudges... yuck. It only made me miss my Coby so much more. Every time I turned around I was saying, "I want my Coby back", but I didn't want to spend another $230+ on another tablet. So when I found this one at HALF!!! the price!!! I couldn't resist. I was a little afraid that it wouldn't measure up to my other Coby but, like I said... I REALLY do prefer this one (I THINK the screen on the 7015 was a little sharper and clearer, better for video playback, it also had an HDMI output jack for hooking up to TV, but I never used it). I wanted this mainly for the ereader and to surf the net, a few games as an added bonus. But with this tablet you get all of that and more.... You can put music and pictures on it, and you can watch youtube videos. You can even put a movie on it to watch on the go (micro SD card slot for extra storage). It plays surprisingly well, it isn't blue-ray quality but, OMG!! what do you expect for $115 ca! Have you priced ereaders lately?... and all they do is allow you to read books, (and some, from what I understand, only books from that particular brandname's app/book store) some can surf the net (but no videos) and most are black and white... er um... grey screen, and you still need good lighting to read by, or you can spend $200 or more for the newer colored ones (and I don't think they play videos either). So, as far as I am concerned, this tablet is well worth the money I spent on it!!! and I am so glad "I have my Coby back!" but it's better! I would buy it again if I needed to.

This review is from: Coby MID7012-4G 7-Inch Kyros Android 2.3 4 GB Internet Touchscreen Tablet (Black) (Personal Computers)
I had debated between buying the 7012 and waiting a bit longer and getting the 7022 with more ram, a slightly faster processor and a capacitive screen, but I went with this machine, the 7012. I'm not disappointed at all. Sure it has some minor issues, but for $114 it's a steal. Installing the official Google Android Market is easy, I had it done and running Google services in minutes. YES you CAN watch Adobe Flash on this, it is running Gingerbread so it's quite capable. It will run flash files from the internal storage or the SD card, Youtube is viewable through an app or a browser. The pre-installed Youtube app doesn't really work, but there are many to choose from in the app stores. These no longer come with the Appslib market installed, only Getjar. Some simple research with Google will net you instructions including video and all the files needed to get the official Android market up and running. The resistive screen works very well if you calibrate it properly like you are supposed to. Wifi connection is quite easy to accomplish, it found and connected to my home network without issue and downloads apps with excellent speed. Battery life is acceptable, obviously it drops considerably when watching video, but regular browsing or reading ebooks it does quite well. It charges very fast when connected to the wall charger, haven't tested USB charging yet so can't comment. It comes from the factory with default settings, for example the screen brightness is set at only around 23% by default, so if you think it's dull, turn it up. Android is not Windows people, if you would be totally lost using Linux then maybe Android isn't for you. No current Android tablet is going to be any different then this, you will have to tweak them to get them to your liking, simple as that. All in all totally recommended if you understand what you are buying, you can't just buy this, charge it and give it to a kid to play with, it was not intended for that. That's what Nintendo is for.
