1.0 out of 5 stars There was no ending, Jan 7 2012
By John M. Bryant, Inc. "Georgia Appraisal School" - Published on Amazon.com
This book was exceptional until you got to the end. There was no end. Maybe I got a Kindle book with some pages missing. The last line, however, read, "This is not the end".

The book opened with the bad guys locking down the Colby Agency building and taking 15 hostages. The head of the agency was Victoria Colby-Camp. The captors had two demands but only the first was disclosed. The Colby Agency was to deliver the corrupt DA Gordon to the captors at the Colby Agency building. The captors gave the Colby Agency 24 hours to produce DA Gordon.

Slade Convoy, a Colby operative, solicited the willing help of the DA's personal assistant, Mia Dawson, who also had a vendetta against her boss, DA Gordon. To get the uncooperative DA Gordon to the Colby building, it was necessary to kidnap him and deliver him by force.

In the meantime, the Colby Agency set up a command center across the street and Victoria's son (Jim I think) was planning an assault on the captors. Blueprints and computer research of the building showed a way in that may be undetected by the captors.

When the book quit (I will not use the word end), the corrupt DA had been delivered to the captors, 14 of the 15 hostages were released. Victoria was retained. Jim was preparing the assault. Nothing happened. The book quit.

I don't know if the assault was attempted or if it worked. I don't know if Victoria escaped alive. I don't know if the evil DA Gordon was prosecuted for his crimes. I don't know if Mia and Slade were prosecuted for kidnapping. In short, I don't know anything that happened. There was no Act III.

In the first few pages, those inside the Colby Agency were taken hostage. At the last page, there were still hostages. There was some good action in between but in the end nothing changed. Over 200 pages of no change.

It was like watching a 2-hour movie, reaching the climax, and seeing the words, "Continued next week". In fact, since the last sentence was, "This is not the end" or something similar, I believe Ms. Webb is trying to sell her next book. It will not be a sequel but a continuation to this book.

The book was very good as far as it went but I will not buy but one other book written by Ms. Webb and that is the continuation of this book. She didn't even tell us the name of the continuation. If anybody knows the title of the continuation, please let me know.

If I received a truncated copy of a Kindle book, I apologize to Ms. Webb and will delete this review if I can.

I believe a book has a start and an end. I don't mind leaving a few bad guys unaccounted for future use but not an unaccounted for conclusion. Every book should have some sort of climax or conclusion. This one did not.
