Book Description

March 28 2006
On June 3, 1991, an abandoned car was found on a busy stretch of highway near Newport Beach, California. Its owner, Denise Huber, seemed to have vanished off the face of the earth. For three years her disappearance remained a mystery, inspiring one of the most intensive missing-persons searches in history. All to no avail. Because the only man who knew what happened to Denise wasn't talking. He wasn't through with her yet...On July 3, 1994, in an affluent suburb of Prescott, Arizona, a padlocked truck parked in the driveway of 37-year-old John Famalaro provoked suspicion. When authorities finally pried open its doors, they found the nude, handcuffed corpse of Denise Huber stuffed into a freezer - preserved forever in the throes of death. Inside Famalaro's home were Denise's personal belongings along with neatly arranged "trophies" of other female prey. But it was the revelations at Famalaro's trial that would truly stagger the imagination, laying bare the terrifying details of Denise's final hours, and exposing the dark past of a merciless killer consumed by perversity and unfathomable evil. From the unforgettable crime to the relentless manhunt, from the sensational trial to the startling aftermath, "Cold Storage" will chill even the most seasoned true-crime aficionado to the bone.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a story ! July 12 2000
By Nanou
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Don's books are always a pleasure to read, and this one is no exception.
It is although this type of true stories that you wish would never happen to anyone. Denise Huber was unlucky to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, and God knows what really happened to her. What is sure is that the poor girl must have been terrified, and been through a lot of pain.
This story is tragic, although, even if in a way justice has been done, Denise will sadly never come back. I just hope that this story will help prevent such horrible crimes.
Don is right to raise awareness about cases like these, so that it never happens again to anyone, and hopefully, do that it can help other similar cases to be solved.
I would imagine such books are difficult to write because the author has to keep an objective view of the facts, and at the same time, living the pain, stress, emotions, trauma, of the parents & friends of the victim. It is a tricky exercise that Don is very good at. Keep up the good work, and good luck !

5.0 out of 5 stars I could not put this book down! July 28 1999
Format:Mass Market Paperback
As soon as I started reading, I could not put this book down. Don Lasseter is an excellent writer. I appreciate the fact that he went into such detail regarding the people and circumstances involved and the investigation. I was touched by the huge amount of kindness and support that the Hubers' were given. I really like the fact there were pictures, it was nice to put a face with the names.
Denise Huber was an exceptional person. Although I never met her, I feel the world has suffered by losing her. What a wonderful family she has. My heart goes out to them.
Everyone should read this book. It lets you know the families, and it takes you through the investigation and the trial - every aspect interesting. You can tell there was tremendous research done with the entire book. This is one book I will keep and re-read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Denise Huber was my friend Dec 26 2000
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I worked with Denise at The Canery Resturant - She was the only nice waitress - You see I was a hostess! I actually was the one who answered the phone when her mother called looking for her the day after she was taken - I honestly think about Denise each and everyday . She was such a beautiful pure hearted girl who didnt deserve to die the way she did . This book helped me to put some closer to my daily thoughts of her - But what really did it was after reading the book - there was an editorial on the discovery channel - a reenactment of the whole case - I was shocked - and hurt but it has helped me to not think so much about her on a dailey basis . God Bless You Denise and Thank you for being my friend! Love Elaine Leon

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping, page-turner Sept. 7 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The only thing I didn't like about this book was the title. After I read this heart-wrenching, tragic story about the murder of Denise Huber, I thought the title was too insensitive. I wish the murderer would have come clean and filled in the blanks as to what happened that fateful night, but of course he never talked. But the author did a good job in getting us to know the killer without benefit of the killer's input.

Riveting. Chilling. Mouth dropping. Simply hard to believe. My heart goes out to the Huber family and to the Famalaro children. I'm still wondering why Dan Lasseter used the names of George and Francine for the killers siblings?
