A smart, entertaining thriller

Michael Mann's 'Collateral' is one of my favourite films of 2004, along with Kill Bill' Vol 2. It's a sleek, smart thriller, and doesn't pretend to be anything more. It accomplishes what it sets out to do magnificantly. The acting, writing, and directing are all excellent. Jamie Foxx shows his considerable talent as an actor, and Tom Cruise is solid in a role you wouldn't expect from him.
All-in-all, there is no reason you shouldn't enjoy watching this movie.

the best movie Michael Mann ever made

This is saying a lot but I really really like this movie.
For me to rate it a five, it has to really impress me, this is probably the best movie in Michael Mann's and Tom Cruise's career. Not only is it excellent cinematographically, but also the acting and character interplay is quite excellent but the movie has actually something to say(listen well to the banter between Tom Cruise and the cab driver throughout the movie). The ending is also quite nice tying in to what happens in the beginning of the movie. The action scenes are excellent and the commenatary is OK.

Great action/drama that stays cool under heat.

Michael Mann has directed many great movies but this one to me is the best so far. Maybe because of the fact that the characters and moral have essence to them or that it has a jazzy, cool style to it.
Tom Cruise is at the top of his game and plays a character new to his fans: "The Bad Guy".He plays a hitman named Vincent who is vicious at work but remains calm when not.But the true star is Jamie Foxx who brings one of the best performances of his career so far (next to his role in RAY). The DVD is amazing and the extra stuff just sweetens the deal. Definetly worth it!
