Product Description

Product Description

From writer/producer Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Leon: The Professional ) comes Colombiana. Zoe Saldana plays a young woman who has grown up to be an assassin after witnessing the murder of her parents as a child. Turning herself into a professional killer, she remains focused on her ultimate goal: to hunt down and get revenge on the mobster responsible for her parents’ deaths.

As a producer, Luc Besson (The Transporter series, Taken, District B-13) has made extremely profitable B-movie hay out of a fairly strict formula incorporating whisper-thin femme fatales, parkour, Gaultier, and guns. Colombiana, another Besson collaboration with director Olivier Megaton (Transporter 3), doesn't exactly blaze new trails, but the combination of Zoe Saldana's fierce performance and a dash of oddball surrealism sure makes the running time zoom by. Purportedly beginning as a sequel to The Professional, the story follows a beautiful South American assassin bent on rubbing out the murderers of her parents. Unfortunately, the closer she gets to her drug lord prey, the more her own loved ones (including Michael Vartan and an amusingly hambone Cliff Curtis) are put at risk. Things go boom, frequently. Director Megaton handles the action with the rapid-cut, blue-filtered zing common to the Besson factory, but things receive a definite boost via the efforts of Saldana, whose performance combines the intensely physical with an appealing soulfulness. Whether slithering through air ducts in a skin-tight cat suit or using a toothbrush as an impromptu weapon, she somehow manages to maintain an air of beyond-the-call gravitas. Also of note are the scenes of the heroine plying her lethal trade, some of which bear the funky logic-defying influence of Mario Bava's great fugue-state caper movie Danger: Diabolik. Ultimately, although the story elements and secondary character motivations rarely hang together, Colombiana's distinguishing marks help place the film somewhere above the level of guilty pleasure. When pitted against the likes of a mobster with a glass-paneled shark tank for a dance floor, reality can take a seat, frankly. --Andrew Wright

Format: Blu-ray
Throughout his illustrious film career as writer, producer and director, Luc Besson has crafted many thrillers featuring assassins. Most notably probably La Femme Nikita (Special Edition)(in French), which has now become two different tv series, and remade as an American movie starring Bridget Fonda, which lacked the killer instinct of the original. He wrote the characters for the Transporter movies starring Jason Statham, and the excellent movie Taken (Single-Disc Extended Edition) starring Liam Neeson. Leon - The Professional (Deluxe Edition), a personal favorite stars Natalie Portman in her first screen role, and he wrote Colombiana.

While Colombiana may not distinguish itself particularly when compared with these other movies, what does distinguish it is Zoe Saldana. If looks could kill, she wouldn't need a weapon. So, when a young girl witnesses her parents murdered by a ruthless druglord, she demonstrates strange abilities, makes her way to America, joins her uncle. Picture a 10 year old saying to her uncle: "I want to kill people, can you help?"

So, she becomes an assassin, and finds creative ways of getting into the most secure places. She is like the mist. You may notice something visually captivating, and captivating in other ways too, about watching a woman in a sleek, figure revealing black one piece, doing all manner of things which demonstrate her flexibility and nimbleness, and wielding a weapon. It's quite sexy.

In fact it's fair to say that Zoe Saldana elevates the movie, and shows that she has what it takes to play leading roles, and carry a movie at the box office. Yes, as you expect, you will find the usual crash bang wallop here too.

Item arrived in good time and in good shape. Video/audio quality are good.

what can I say, I like movies with kick-butt chicks in it. I like them even better when they are not all about showing skin as well, tho you always expect some of that these days.
It also had more gravitas than I expected.
Very good movie that I will recommend to other friends who like kick-butt chicks.

If you like a movie with lots of steady action that is the movie to buy. I watched it twice and will watch it again and again and Zoe Saldana is really good in it.

This movie falls inline with the typical plot style of the action movie genre. There was a decent amount of character development for a movie of this type.
