5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated Group!!!! July 19 2004
Format:Audio CD
Lacuna Coil is a highly underrated group. They aren't given the credit they deserve. This album is a must-have for any fan of Evanescence. The sound is very similar, but Cristina has her own vocal quality different from Amy Lee's of Evanescence. If you're looking for the sound of Evanescence with a touch of a stronger grunge sound, this is the album to purchase! This album contains a great variety of music!

5.0 out of 5 stars Evanescence, watch and learn. May 14 2004
Format:Audio CD
So many people are morons. They hear the song "Heaven's A Lie" on the radio a few months after "Bring Me To Life" hits the airwaves, but do they realize who came first? NO! Lacuna Coil released a self-titled debut EP in 1998, followed by their full length debut, In A Reverie, in 1999, the Half-Life EP in 2000, Unleashed Memories in '01, and this in '02. Evanescence just want to be this band.
The differences between them and Evanescence:
1. Lacuna Coil have a bass player. Evanescence do not.
2. Lacuna Coil are real metal. Evanescence are not.
3. Lacuna Coil have 2 singers. Evanescence only have one.
4. Lacuna Coil have TALENT! Evanescence do not.
Also, the female singer of Lacuna Coil (Cristina) is EXTREMELY hot, Amy from Evanescence... well, she's hot too, but not nearly as hot as Cristina. Lacuna Coil have slowly progressed into the mainstream, which is excellent for their incredible label (Century Media, home of Sentenced, Arch Enemy, and Timo Kotipelto, as well as the former home of Iced Earth, Mayhem, and Exodus). Evanescence, on the other hand, sold out immediately on my watch. And it's an example of excellent indie music that isn't (gasp) EMO! Anyways, I will be seeing this band live this summer at the one and only Ozzfest '04. Evanescence, suck my ass!

And now the album. Basically, my thoughts on the band summarize my thoughts on the album. But it isn't the whole thing. I bought this for my friend for his birthday. When he slept over, we gave a stern listen and thought, "These guys are amazing." Standout tracks are Swamped, Heaven's A Lie, and Aeon. Bottom line: BUY THIS IF YOU LIKE EVANESCENCE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Back Off Evanescence! May 14 2004
Format:Audio CD
Lacuna Coil (translation: Empty Spiral) is definitely one of the most awesome bands of the century. From majestic tunes such as "Lost Lullaby" to sorrowful passages like "Entwined", Lacuna Coil gives you it all, except maybe pop and boredom. There songs reach to a large audience; "Swamped" leaning to those who are down on themselves for throwing today away, "Heaven's a Lie" reaching to the hardcore lovers with dark tastes, "Daylight Dreamer" going to those who just want the truth, "Humane," a great message for the broken-hearted who are afraid of loving again, "Self Deception" for the ones who deceived themselves into thinking their lovers felt the same, "Aeon," a short poem for those who have found someone, "Tight Rope" for those out there who have to "fix" someone who always wants more, "The Ghost Woman and the Hunter" are to the broken hearts who have a lover who moved on, "Unspoken" to the ones who feel as if they're on the other side of their lover, "Entwined" for those who have a lover that they cannot escape from, "The Prophet Said" going out to those who feel as if they cannot feel happiness, "Angel's Punishment" for those who have been lied to, "Comalies," an Italian piece made for those who have found someone, and finally, "Lost Lullaby," a hidden track for the wounded who have made it through. So basically, you've got a very dark album made for the hardcore, stalker-type lovers and the heart-broken youth of the nation. Lacuna Coil has all the makings of a hit band.

The problem? Not even azlyrics.com recognizes them as a band. Most people haven't even heard of them. The only magazine I have ever seen them is has been "Revolver" and thank the heavens that they did, because if they didn't, I would have never heard of them and I would have never had a chance to experience real music.

I think everyone will find a song from Lacuna Coil that they can relate to. I myself had no troubles finding an area in my life that related to a piece from this beautiful band.

In conclusion, Lacuna Coil is a true band. There're 6 members, and the lead female singer does not stand alone. Every song is different. Every song is like a composed piece of poetry, a perfect passage, like flowing water. The transitions are beautiful, and nothing is overdone. Now why can't we give these guys some credit?
