1.0 out of 5 stars when will they release this properly April 30 2013
I was excited about this release, and as I recall I enjoyed the show itself quite a bit as a child.

When I read the review on here about how the previous releases of the show were shortened and sped up I decided to look into this. I didn't have much luck getting any answers, but I was able to find out that the running time of the previous season one sets came to 1499 minutes - 749 for the first split set, and 750 for the next split set making up season one. 1499 minutes in total.

This new release is said to have a running time of 1497 minutes in total.

This would indicate to me that the new release has the same shortened and sped up versions as the previous release.

Most tv shows from the 1950's - 1960's that ran in a 1 hour time slot had a running time of AT LEAST 50 minutes per episode without the commercials. Therefore I figure that if these episodes were released in uncut full length format without being sped up and with no content deleted - then the total running time should be at least 1600 minutes in total.

The set has 32 episodes in total and the listed running time would mean that each episode is about 46 minutes long. Tv shows that fit into 1 hour time slots today have running times like that. Shows like this would have to have a fair bit of content cut in order to only be 46 minutes long.

With this in mind I have scratched these sets off of my wants list and I will not recommend that anyone waste their time and money on this new series of releases.

Any show worthy of release as a dvd set is worthy of being released in it's full form with all content - without being sped up.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is good to remember Dec 1 2013
Just received these as an early Christmas present (complete series) as I am going into hospital for surgery and my son thought it would be good to have for my recovery time. I've been viewing and remembering. As others have said they remember the series when it was first on. So do I. These are good to remember the show but also helps to remember the war and the struggles of the people and the valour and sacrifice our Vets went through. The first reviewer was upset concerning the length of the show and thought he was cheated, but one of the bonus videos had an interview with Vic Morrow who explained that the length was 47min per week.
The interview had more insights into how it was put together and where.
This is a good set and is worth the investment in $ and in time enjoying the show. Also it's neat to remember Black and White shows. it lends an air of authenticity to the series. I think the last few DVDs are in colour. But I'm not that far yet.

I bought this for my father because I remember coming home from school and he would be watching Combat reruns on tv. His father fought in WWII and was very impressed with the show as they would watch it together. His father passed away in his early 50's of a heart attack so I thought it would be a nice gift. Showed up on time, good shape and he was veery happy!

It's why I always tell my sons when I grew up in the '60s TV was always worth watching. Combat was one I never missed on Tuesday night... we never had a color set anyway, so black and white was all we knew..

When You do decide to buy a Combat season , see they picture they are showing on the review ? that DVD set has the entire season in one an You save $22 . I have the ones I said dont buy , but Im going to buy season 3 . This show was one of my favorites as a Kid an even now as adult . I always liked the episodes with Vic Morrow , not that Hanley was bad , He did have a handfull of good episodes such as the enemy with Robert Duval
