Electric Wizard - 'Come My Fanatics' (JVC),
By
This review is from: Come My Fanatics (Digi) (Audio CD)
Didn't realize at first this posting is for the single disc release. I have the 2-CD pressing. No matter, this 1996 effort by Electric Wizard is worth getting {of course} if you don't have the 2-CD issue. Basically their major influence is early '70's Sabbath-like stoner doom metal. Tunes I dug the most were the guitar-heavy fuzzed out "Return Trip", the ripping "Ivixor B / Phase Inducer", "Son Of Nothing" and the kick-*ss "Solarian". Looks like you also get two added bonus tracks here - tunes that I don't have on the Music Cartel double-disc. Sneaky record label! I've heard the band is now a four piece - adding a second guitarist. Will appeal to fans of Orange Goblin, Sleep, Sons Of Otis, Obsessed and Kyuss.

Although I would give the edge to Dopethrone, this album is very close. With the exception of the experimental track Ivixor B/Phase Inducer, this is one great album. I love Return Trip. It's one of my favourite EW songs of all time! Come My Fanatics and Dopethrone are both incredible albums. The other disc, Electric Wizard's first album, pales in comparison to their other work, but it's starting to grow on me. Electric Wizard is really a phenomenal band. If you don't have any of there music, buy Dopethrone. Then buy this one.

After countless listens to Dopethrone, I decided to check out the rest of Electric Wizard's catalog. I first heard some songs off Let Us Prey, and was dissapointed. I like the album now however. So, I decided to check out their earlier albums. Come My Fanatics is pretty much in the same vein as Dopethrone. Bass-heavy production, killer riffs, weird ambiences, etc. I like Dopethrone a lot more though. The best songs are Return Trip, which is now my favorite Electric Wizard song, and Wizard In Black, which has some great riffs and killer guitar solos. The only reason I gave this 4 stars was because of Jus's singing. It can get annoying after a while, and I didn't really care for Doom-Mantia. On the whole, 4 stars.
