What a great book to learn Solidworks, Mar 19 2010

I graduated from college last year without a job in engineering. I'm now trying to brush up on my 3D CAD skills and purchased this book. What a great SolidWorks book for the new (semi-new) user. I wished that my school used this book when I was taking Solidworks in class. It has 100s of short tutorials that are to the point to learn most needed skills in SolidWorks. The CD (it works) has the initial and final models for you to compare the featuremanager. You can use the rollback bar on the final models to see how the model was created. Great idea.

As a SolidWorks CAD instructor who was once in industry, this book can be use both as a daily reference text or for a classroom lead text with short - to the point tutorials.
For those learning Solidworks for the first time, other introductory texts with multimedia DVDs are available from the Planchard's (Engineering design with SolidWorks, SolidWorks Tutorial, etc. which are project based books).
This book is not project based - but short tutorial driven which leads itself very nicely to users who want to quickly locate and apply a command or tool. There are hundreds of short tutorials and models to work with in a well structure manner.
The book covers nearly all of the basic and intermediate SolidWorks commands and new features of 2010 (Cosmetic features, new assembly techniques, Sustainability, Photoview 360, DFM, etc.) other then surfaces and any complex Simulation. No one book can be written to address everyone, but this book comes very near! Well written and executed!

I purchased two SolidWorks books based on the reviews and Author's notes/comments - this one and the Bible. I would not recommend the bible for a new user. This Commands guide is a marvelous first class book, well written and referenced, extremely clear - as if having a SolidWorks CAD instructor sitting right next to you. I was a new user to this product and I feel today very comfortable to do my tasks on SolidWorks and feel that this book would be an excellent guide even for intermediate users. Having all of the initial and final models in each exercise is great. The short tutorials are just long enough to learn the feature or tool. No a lot of wasted talk.
