BEST YET,
By TwoJacks (Steeltown,On Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Common Ground (Audio CD)
Walter Trout, Walter Trout Band, Walter Trout & The Radicals...I am a huge fan of anything Walter Trout. I feel that Walter Trout and whatever name he and the band call themselves is well worth the listen.I have the cd's Deep Trout,The Outsider,Unspoiled By Progress,Full Circle and Walter Trout and the Radicals. Adding Common Ground to my Walter Trout Collection ties it all together. I feel it is his cleanest, clearest best sounding and executed cd yet.You can't really go wrong with anything Walter Trout though. If you haven't heard of Walter Trout or his music you are missing out.Take the gamble and buy Common Ground plus any of the other cd's I have listed. You'll become an instant fan.

RICK "SHAQ" GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "MORE BALLADS, SOME ROCK... LESS BLUES!",

This review is from: Common Ground (Audio CD)
If you're a longtime Walter Trout fan and two of your more recent favorite Trout CD's are "UNSPOILED BY PROGRESS" and "FULL CIRCLE", Walter's most recently released CD "COMMON GROUND" is not up to the same hard rocking blues level as those two powerful entries. "Common Ground" has more pure ballads and rock then it does rocket fueled blues. The recording quality is excellent from start to finish and you get your money's worth as far as overall length... *TWELVE-SONGS-SIXTY-THREE-MINUTES*. Walter also shows flexibility in his voice, by almost sounding like the original electric Dylan on song #1, "MAY BE A FOOL", and on some of the ballads he showcases tender sounding capabilities that are sometimes hidden in the ground shaking, guttural, electric-blues-blasts that fans like me look forward to. All is not lost for pulse-pounding-blues-rock-lovers when Walter bends the strings and decides to rip it up on #7 "LOADED GUN"... #11 "WRAPPED UP IN THE BLUES" and #12 "Excess Baggage. There is also the unexplainable #6 "HUDSON HAD HELP" that isn't blues, isn't rock, isn't a ballad... it sounds like it belongs on a riverboat. Luckily at *three-minutes-seventeen-seconds" it's the shortest cut on the CD. Buying this CD is not a bad choice for Walter Trout fans... it's just not up to some of his previous five-star performances.

This release from Walter Trout is outstanding. It truly demonstrates this man's talents. It's diverse, creative and I find myself playing it over and over again as I head down the highway.
