I have read many books to obtain the a+ certification and this one is my favorite, the Cram questions are placed in the right places for not being too discouraged to read this book which has many pages.

I am CompTIA A+ certified!

Thanks to this book and the Exam Cram 220-801 220-802 Sixth Edition by David L Prowse
ISBN: 9780789749710

Both of these books have helped me obtain the CompTIA A+ Certification. They prepared me mentally and covered the most important topics from CompTIA A+ objectives.

What does this book give you?
700 practice questions in the book! Also they are on the disk too.

You get 300 practice questions in the book solely on 220-801

You get an additional 400 practice questions solely on the 220-802

What better way to prepare yourself than to practice with these questions to give you the confidence you need to be successful on exam day. David L Prowse explains the answers to each question and even gives you helpful test taking tips. It helped me.

I've done it, now it is your turn. Get this book!

How to Prepare to Take the A+ Exams starting with no experience - Career Changers Dec 13 2013
By Joseph H. White - Published on
Format: Paperback
Due to a recent Career Change stemming from the state of the present economy, I choose to dive back into IT Security, since it is a high paying and stable and in demand worldwide position. To start this off, I knew I needed to ground myself in the foundation of IT technical issues of personal computers.

To prepare to take the CompTIA A+ 801/802 Exams I purchased two books from Amazon to prepare me for this overwhelming task of learning everything about the current exam requirements. I took A+ training back in 2002, but never certified since I did it for personal use and familiar environment to repair and diagnose my own systems.

The first book I purchased: Authorized Cert guide for CompTIA A+ 220-801/802 by Soper, Prowse, & Mueller 3rd Edition. It comes with a lot of information and includes a DVD that has testing software to prepare those to take the same style exam. I read 3 Chapters everyday and took the maximum amount of questions to quiz myself on learning the fundamentals.

Once I completed the book, I watched the entire set of training videos prepared my Professor Messer on Youtube. They are free and he explains everything stemming from the 801/802 requirements – prepare to take notes! I also went through the CBT Nuggets A+ training, but found Messer to have about 9+ hrs of more info compared to the 10hrs from CBT Nuggests – plus the Nuggets you have to pay for.

The second book I purchased that has 7 Study exams with 100 questions each – plus 80 bonus questions per exam – for a total of 860 Questions to prepare your mind and soul for the actual exam was: Exam Cram, 5th Ed, A+ 220-801/802 by Prowse. This book not only get’s your state of mind prepared to take the actual exam, it explains why the answer is correct while the others are wrong. It is highly detailed.

I went through all 7 exams and then took the Practice Exams twice and scored a 91 % and a 92% on the first two tries. I’m now going back and taking all 7 Exams again – plus taking the 80 Bonus questions per 801 and 802 sections to fully immerse my brain into the A+ environment.

I also designed my own Study Sheets off of Excel to study the areas I was weak on and organized all the processors, laser printer functions, troubleshooting steps, etc…to make sure I had a color coded Fast Sheet of information right in front of my face. This process is also advisable by Prowse in his book.

I also made a 16 Part jpeg of a Motherboard to study the parts and how to identify all the slots, CPU, RAM, etc…

If you are serious about getting the CompTIA A+ Cert – and you have no background in IT/Computers – these 2 Books are an excellent source to prepare you. You only initial investment is the two books –the training videos are FREE. I do not recommend dumps – since the people throwing that stuff on there may or may not know what they are talking about. LEARN THE MATERIAL –it will ground you firmly into the IT world – a world that is growing in demand for qualified PC Techs, Network, and Security professionals!

I start studying in OCT 2013 and it is now DEC 2013 and I’m getting to the edge of scheduling my exams. Take the time and do it right. Both books listed above will prepare you. I say this sine I used Meyer’s book back in 2002 and I felt there where things not discussed that I personally ran into when working on my own systems and would have to Google for the answer. I always fixed the issue. After going through these two books, the real world issues I have encountered and knew the answer to the question – so my opinion is that these are as real as it gets to preparing you for the actual exam!

Good Practice Nov. 16 2012

The author does a good job with setting questions from easy to hard. It helps you find what areas you know and what areas you need help with. The book is split between 801 and 802 questions. Along with the Exam Cram I was able to pass both test.

Seriously, your going to risk not passing the exam just for the sake of saving a measly 16 bucks? Just like the main book, this book is very much an outstanding value. Buy them both, study hard and master the material. It's all there.

Excellent preparation for the A+ exam. June 3 2013

Mr. Prowse's books are what you need to pass the A+. I used this book and CompTIA A+ 220-801 and 220-802 Authorized Exam Cram (6th Edition) and passed on the first try. The only criticism I might offer about this book is that a lot of the practice questions are considerably harder than the actual test questions and can tend to discourage you a little, but I'm sure he does that by design. Highly recommended!
