Book Description

March 5 2005

More than 2 million Canadians live with diabetes.

Diabetes is rapidly becoming the largest health problem in the Western world. As our society becomes more overweight and the population ages, there are many more Canadians at risk for developing diabetes. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, careful meal planning is key to managing the disease.

The importance of proper and flexible meal planning was one of the key principles behind the revisions to the Canadian Diabetes Association Meal Planning System (also called the Good Health Eating Guide). The new system will be closely modeled on the U.S. system, which is based on 15g of carbohydrate per serving in each of the carbohydrate-containing groups (starch, fruit, vegetables, milk and sugars). The Complete Canadian Diabetes Cookbook is one of the first books on the market to reflect these changes.

This cookbook contains 250 diabetes-suitable recipes with complete nutritional information for each recipe. Healthy cooking becomes a breeze -- and that's a major step in taking control of diabetes. Managing diabetes doesn't have to mean eating uninteresting food for the rest of your life. You'll be amazed at the wonderful variety of flavors you can savor while following your meal plan.

4.0 out of 5 stars loved this Feb. 8 2009
I loved everything i tried in this cook book so far and cant wait to try more. I tried the almond cheescake and chocolate mousse. I made them for my boyfriend and he didnt even realize that they were diabetic until I told him. The recipes are easy to follow and very easy to make for not just the diabetic but for the whole family or friends. Try it out, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recipes that can be used by everyone Nov. 23 2010
This book is amazing.I chose it because I knew that the Diabetic concept in terms of low-glycemic was what I wanted. No one in the family has diabetes.
Each recipe shows nurtitional value, calories etc. These recipes have great taste/spices and variety. I only use this book and the Slowcooker book for all of our meals. AND we have all lost weight!

Just being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in December and limited resources in our community this book gave us a pretty good guide line until we had other resources. We use this on a daily bases still just so we get use to cooking healthly. Well worth the read and use.
