Product Description

Product Description

Providing a comprehensive guide for the aspiring and improving croquet player, this overview deals with basic skills and outlines how to avoid and eradicate common problems. An in-depth coverage of modern tactics is also presented, focusing on the building blocks of break play and examining in detail how each element works before bringing it all together. There is advice on how to repair a bad situation when everything has gone wrong, how to exploit a good situation when everything is going well, and how to regain the initiative when the opponent is storming ahead. Whether your interest is in developing an understanding of top-class, championship-level tactics; in improving your play at handicap level; or even in just playing at home, this is an invaluable handbook for all aficionados.

This review is from: Complete Croquet: A Guide to Skills, Tactics and Strategy (Paperback)
The book is a modern and up to date coverage of a long established traditional sport.

The information is well presented and readily usable by croquet players of all level, from absolute beginners to advanced international standard players. All should gain useful information from the book.

There are also useful comments on the present state of the game and possible future developments

5.0 out of 5 stars Advanced Instruction with Beautiful Pictures. Why didn't anyone think of this before?, Nov 29 2010

This review is from: Complete Croquet: A Guide to Skills, Tactics and Strategy (Paperback)
As the title suggests, this book is a soup to nuts reference. While it based on International Play, many American Rules players will find it invaluable, because the topics on break running will be the same.

However, that can be said for just about any book out there. What really sets the book apart is that it is (1) modern with great photographs of the current players from all over the world (including UK, New Zealand, Australia AND USA) and (2) it includes advanced level tactics (including peel sequences, leaves etc), and explains them well. For some reason or another, these two elements seemed unable to coexist in any other croquet book.

So what is there not to like? Nothing.
