It is a good book for beginners, however i doesn't show very well poisonous plants and mushrooms that can be confused with edibles.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing Jun 29 2011
By Tim - Published on Amazon.com

This book might be useful to someone who already knows what it is they have picked, but that is where it's usefulness ends. There are absolutely no usefull descriptions of leaves, stems or flowers and very limited descriptions of the fruits. The sketches are not very detailed and the lack of color photos leaves me looking for a better alternative. I might as well have eaten the 11$ I paid for this.

1.0 out of 5 stars I like the cover.. Jun 16 2011

Perfect for the armchair forager, pick up a Peterson guide while your at it.

Of course, if you have a legitimate foraging interest, I'd recommend one (all) of the following:
The Forager's Harvest: A Guide to Identifying, Harvesting, and Preparing Edible Wild Plants
Nature's Garden: A Guide to Identifying, Harvesting, and Preparing Edible Wild Plants
Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants in Wild (and Not So Wild) Places
The North American Guide to Common Poisonous Plants and Mushrooms
The Complete Mushroom Hunter: An Illustrated Guide to Finding, Harvesting, and Enjoying Wild Mushrooms

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.. April 12 2012
By Sebrina Rothrock - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I thought from reading the description of the book that this would not only have details about plants and things, but real pictures. It states that it's illustrated, and in the preview they show a few color pages of images of the plants, etc. But they fail to tell you that there are less than 10 pages in the middle of colored real pictures of the items held in the book. I feel that it is not a horrible book, but not a great book by it's self. I think if you had other resources to check what you are foraging, that this book will help you figure out how to prepare a meal with those items. It's not a book that you can just take with you hiking and pick stuff out, unless you already know what these things look like. Like I said, it's not a horrible book there are some good points of it. The recipes will be helpful, and some history is nice to know about the items the book contains. The one HUGE thing is the images, if this book contained all photo images of the items included in it, it would be a fabulous book to take with you. So just an FYI if you want something with images accompanying descriptions and such, this is not the book you want.
