Book Description

April 13 2007

Enjoy the sensational food that is typically avoided in gluten-free diets.

Gluten-free foods needn't be plain or unappetizing. When there's a food allergy such as celiac disease, wheat intolerance or lactose intolerance, that usually means cooking two separate meals. That's no longer the case, however, thanks to the imaginative recipes in Complete Gluten-Free Cookbook. Everyone can enjoy these tantalizing recipes, which include everything from baked goods, pasta dishes, appetizers and family meals to mouthwatering desserts. Here is a sampling of the inspired gluten-free recipes, most of which have an egg-free variation:

  • Asparagus risotto
  • Wild rice latkes
  • Skillet cornbread
  • Bacon and tomato biscuits
  • Coconut shrimp
  • Curried beef with rice noodles
  • Date orange streusel cake
  • Cherry almond biscotti
  • Pear hazelnut tart
  • Shirley's old-fashioned donuts.

In addition to the 150 recipes, there is extensive information about various gluten-free flours, legumes and rices. Also included are tips and techniques for baking lactose-free and egg-free products, making the book helpful for those with other allergies.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too much sugar March 3 2010
It was extremely frustrating to buy this book and find every recipe fill the gluten gap with sugar and butter.

I'd recommend a whole foods cookbook instead.

Bought it, opened it, was disappointed, haven't used it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome ! Dec 16 2009
Of all the gluten-free cook books out there, I found this one to be particularly amazing. Also contains lactose free recipes ! I've tried most of the recipes of this book and I'm not disappointed. A ''must have'' for gluten intolerant people.

So what? Heather and Donna were right there with the cookbook to help out those diagnosed people! There cookies were just awesome and fit right into parties - I served one set of their cookies at a large party I catered once and never again as an associate had a lactose and egg allergy and was she pleased to get them all to herself! Sometimes the lactose and egg allergies move along after a few years, however this is a great book to have a round expecially if you have kids and their friends over as these allergies are becoming more prevelant outside of CD also.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have Celiac, this book is worth it! Feb. 7 2009
By Belaugh86 - Published on Amazon.com
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who has been diagnosed with Celiac disease or is gluten intolerant. I am so glad I chose this one over the other options. Every recipe has been tested to ensure it can be prepared milk free and/or egg free if you wish. If you are watching your calories or are just curious about the nutritional content of the meals, caloric values are provided for each and every recipe. I have tried the Sausage and Leek Pizza and the Crunchy Citrus Chicken and both were delicious! Even my boyfriend who isn't gluten intolerant enjoyed them.

My only complaint is that all of the baking recipes (cupcakes, cakes, muffins etc) call for a lot of ingredients. If you buy this book, plan on needing to stock up on pretty much every alternative flour there is out there. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend that anyone out there with Celiac/gluten intolerance buy THIS book before buying any other one.

It is a great source of information about the products used to substitute wheat; I like bread and helps me to develop new formulas to make bread with qualities as close as possible to the European bread. I recommand to anybody just learning about the gluten free diet.
