I just received my copy of "The Complete Guide to Everyday Risks in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding" Wow! What a wealth of information. Nice to see it so well presented. I am a therapist who works with many pregnant and nursing women. I will not hesitate to recommend they read this text nor will I hesitate to lend my copy to my clients who cannot afford it. This is important stuff. Gideon Koren presents information regarding medical, physiological and environmental concerns for during pregnancy and nursing. For issues relating to the emotional development following birth and beyond I would pair this book with "Systemic Parenting: An Exploration of the Parenting Big Picture" (Gaskill). This has an equal amount of information for mother & fathers. Best to prepare early.

For an MD, the author really lacks in research skills. This book mostly examines the safety of drugs, and even then does not go into great detail as to why a certain drug is safe or unsafe to use throughout pregnancy. I found alot of conflicting information with other (I'd like to say, more reliable) sources. The author barely touches herbs, and the information given on the few "examined" is hardly worthy of attention. It seems this subject was approached overnight using very few ressources. Alot of information on the subject was provided by traditional knowledge, and never cross-referenced by medical research. Overall, I'm not sure I trust the content of this book at all. A total waste of money!

Fabulous book. Literally covers every medical concern one could ever have about pregnancy and breastfeeding. And since it comes from a very reliable source, you know you can trust what it says.

Give a copy of this book as a baby shower gift and it will be circulating among your friends for years!

Clear, non-paranoid advice Feb. 8 2009

Format: Paperback
Very clear advice regarding the safety of a variety of medications, supplements, and occupational hazards during pregnancy and breastfeeding. The only thing that would have made it better would be a more comprehensive section on foods - there's a lot of misinformation about foods you supposedly can't eat while pregnant or breastfeeding.

I bought this book for my wife who is now pregnant. She (and her also pregnant sister) look something up in here about every other day. It has eased a lot of fears and helped us avoid some risks. As another reviewer mentioned, it could use more information on foods.

This book was set up in an easy to read questopn to answer format. However, I have found other books that have provide the information in a preferable format that was congruess.
