Product Description

Computers are nowhere near as easy to use as users would like them to be. Seemingly simple tasks such as composing a memo or printing a file can take entirely too long when using an unfamiliar operating system. "The Complete Idiot's Guide[registered] to Microsoft Windows Vista", provides readers with information to overcome such problems. With 'just the facts ma'am' explanations, simple step-by-step instructions, and a lot of useful examples, readers see that getting work done in Windows doesn't have to cost one his sanity. In "The Complete Idiot's Guide[registered] to Microsoft[registered] Windows[registered] Vista", readers will find: How to use the new tools that let you see what your files contain without opening them, find applications and files instantly, navigate efficiently among open windows, and use wizards and dialog boxes more confidently; how to use and get the most out the new tab feature in Windows Explorer; how to use the Windows firewall; how to use Windows Backup and another new and related feature, Volume Shadow Copy (which was first introduced with the Windows Server product family and is now available for PCs), for backup and restore protection; and, how to use Windows Sidebar, which provides instant access to a wide variety of customizable mini-applications that offer information at a glance and provides easy access to frequently used tools.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for first time pc users., Mar 11 2007
By M. L. Hare - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Complete Idiots Guide To Microsoft Windows Vista (Paperback)
This is the second book in the Idiot series I have purchased (first one being the Idiot's Guide to Windows ME). This book takes the approach of the first time pc user. Very thorough and gives almost all the information one needs to become fully computer-literate. I have been using computers for 7 years now and I learned a few new things. Gives you all the information you need to use Vista with ease.

4.0 out of 5 stars A timely resource for the author's target audience, Feb 17 2007
By Peter O'KELLY - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Complete Idiots Guide To Microsoft Windows Vista (Paperback)
This book is a useful introduction to major Windows Vista features. It's likely to be most useful for people who don't have in-depth experience with Windows XP, e.g., people getting their first PCs and starting with Windows Vista.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete Idiot's Guides are a smart buy, April 10 2009
By T. Simental "Tamisa" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Complete Idiots Guide To Microsoft Windows Vista (Paperback)
All the Complete Idiot's Guides are marvelous, and this one is no exception. A rank beginner who's never touched a PC could operate Vista with this book. For those of us who are much more computer literate, but still have trouble figuring out all the intricacies of the complex Vista operating system, just skim or skip the first few chapters and dig in a little further along. The author's wonderful dry humor helps you laugh at your frustrations, while his detailed and specific instuctions help you accomplish what you set out to do. I hated Vista OS at first. Now that I can see how much I can do with it, thanks to this guide, I love it!
