This vaccine guide for parents sticks it to the others...

Vaccines usually bring relief, since society no longer has to worry about scourges of the past. But there's been concern that these lifesavers can harm some. Which vaccines are necessary for the common good, and when should they be given? Here is all the information readers need to know about every vaccine, including: how vaccines work; which are required and recommended; which have been challenged; risks of not vaccinating; vaccines for travelers, injuries, and special populations, including seniors.

-Informative, unbiased, straightforward reference for parents

I am a nurse that always wants to bring information to my patients in the simpliest form possible. It was occasionally difficult to break these concepts down and this book did it perfectly! For nurses and laypersons!

5.0 out of 5 stars vaccination, Jan 10 2010
By george - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Complete Idiot's Guide To Vaccinations (Paperback)
This concise and well written book presents a very timely review of the purpose and effectiveness of immunization against a variety of viral and bacterial pathogens. The authors discuss the biology of antibodies and their stimulus and production by a number of disease organisms. Also considered are the history of the enormously successful vaccines against smallpox, diptheria and polio as well as effective control by vaccines against measles, whooping cough, shingles and others. Concerns expressed by parents over the safety and value of vaccines for children are treated in a balanced discussion. The text is free of medical jargon and can be readily understood by most readers. Particularly useful are the "Least You Need to Know" section that ends each chapter - providing a quick summary of each chapter's key conclusions. Highlights such as "Brain Boosters" and Vaccinating Facts" are fun to read, and offer related information. Anyone who is concerned about the need for vaccines, how they generate the immune response, what the safety issues may be, and when children and adults should receive vaccines would be well served to consult this excellent volume.

Being a lawyer, I found this book to be concise as well as well balanced in it's analysis of the pros and cons of vaccinations. This has been tremendously useful for our family and would be a perfect gift for others with children.
