Too Vague, Nov 2 2009

This review is from: Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia of Symbols, Signs & Dream Interpretation: Identification And Analysis Of The Visual Vocabulary And Secret Language That Shapes Our Thoughts And Dreams And Dictates Our Reactions To The World (Hardcover)
The pictures are beautiful but the substance is not there in my opinion.
It has a nice section at the end with meaning of symbols, but to me the explanations for falling etc.. are just pretty basic, vague, stuff.
For example sex in your dreams means you may be lacking it at home.. um you think?
(They have more but you get my point I hope.)
But like I said the section at the end is pretty neat with symbols and what they are called etc.. but besides that.. I don't know I would look around for another one, and let me know when you find a good one!

Symbols, Signs and Dream Interpretations, Oct 16 2010

This review is from: Complete Illustrated Encyclopedia of Symbols, Signs & Dream Interpretation: Identification And Analysis Of The Visual Vocabulary And Secret Language That Shapes Our Thoughts And Dreams And Dictates Our Reactions To The World (Hardcover)
Although it seems a thick and sturdy book, it was very brief.
Don't get me wrong-it's a great reference if you're just beginning. It will tell you only the basis of each sign or symbol etc. And while it did do this, it didn't always explain in a way that was understandable. For instance, when talking about the Egyptian Ankh, it mentions that it is scared to the God of the Underworld, but then later says it is scared to another Goddess. It never mentions why, nor how this came to be. I happen to know what the relationship there is from other books on symbols. I checked the Index, but I had no luck.
Also the set up of chapters was a bit confusing. I was suddenly reading about Egypt then jumping to Native American Indians. Perhaps I'm a bit fanatic about the set up of books, but I thought I should mention this.
On the up side, this book has a wonderful index. Every little word is listed, such as Victory or cat. Also it is an illustrated book. It has wonderful illustration that almost make up for the not fully descriptive text.
The dream interpretation was well done. Some of the photos were somewhat strange, but unlike the first parts of the book, the text was wonderful.
This is just a rough review, but I hope it helps.

A different angle to dream interpretation, Oct 30 2007

I was really excited to get this hardcover encyclopedia for dream interpretation. I have been doing self-study on dream interpretation, and I have found it to be quite useful for understanding my needs. The subconscious has a lot to tell us.
I was a little confused at first when I started reading through this encyclopedia. The thing about dream interpretation is that it's all symbols that you have to find meaning in. This encyclopedia helps you to see all the ways to look at your symbols to find meaning in your dreams, but it's in a different layout than your standard dream dictionary, or even other dream encyclopedias I've seen.
