5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Tim Lingley on June 29 2011
Format: Paperback
If you've just bought a DSLR and you've figured out what most of the little buttons and dials do, this is a great book to help you take the next step into the addicting world of photography.

The author begins by explaining the fundamentals of photography including shutter speed, aperture and ISO (the exposure triangle), so if you already have a basic understanding of these topics it is a great review. Afterward, however, the journey really begins and you start to get into how to really make a photo stand out from the crowd. The author discusses what lens to use, vertical lines, horizontal lines, framing, etc all in an effort to give you a basic and solid foundation into composing your shots. Perhaps my favorite part of the book is that it even gives you Assignments, creative ideas to go try for yourself to reinforce the material learned in each chapter.

For such an inexpensive book, it's a fantastic stepping stone. It's even up to date with a flickr group!

I purchased this book because I was new to photography and wanted to better understand composition. I found it to be a very easy read and was able to expand my interest even further once I started to improve my skills. I highly recommend this book.
